I was informed about something going wrong here and investigation showed that it’s worse than I thought. My Contabo Object Storage started claiming it’s full, even though it’s only half-full. I opened a ticket to tell them to fix their shit, but knowing their speed, it might be a few more days :-/...
Maybe as a stopgap, you can try cleaning up the auto-generated variants (alternate-size thumbnails) that pict-rs has stored? Might get you under whatever threshold was tripped while supports works out the main issue.
DELETE /internal/variants : Queue a cleanup for generated variants of uploaded images.`
If any of the cleaned variants are fetched again, they will be re-generated.
My instance is fairly conservative with media uploads and cached thumbnails, but it shaved off a few gigs that had accumulated over 6-7 months. Heads up that the call to that endpoint will return immediately as it just queues the job in pictrs.
I’ve had a Lemmy instance running on a VPS with 100 GB of storage for a few months and it has filled up. I’ve been searching for ways to reduce the amount of storage used but so far I am coming up empty. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I ran into the same problem and ended up switching to an S3 with Vultr. It’s been a while since I did it but here are the links that I used to figure it out. I’m deployed using Lemmy-Easy-Deploy.
I just had two posts #censored from mastodon.social. I will never know the real reason, but both were just the longest possible sequence of tags, to reach and be visible to a large audience. I suspect what ticked the hammer off were tags referring to "prohibited" substances. namely #thc#weed#marijuana#LSD#acid#tryptamine#hallucinogenic. the posts were deleted without informing me even though I was also using tags such as "moderation" and "noalcohol" in the same post. why is it forbidden to talk positively about these blissful compounds that nature gifts us, while hyperconsumption of #alcohol, #nicotine and #coffee is normalized and even encouraged, and the elite is allowed to indulge unquestioned, including #public#officials?
I would like to suggest that developers consider as much flexibility when trying to interact with links/handles from off-instance and off-kbin (e.g. lemmy) as possible. I would like for it to work on lemmy in a similar fashion....
Irgendwie bekomme ich den Eindruck, dass das #Fediverse immer leerer wird und viele #Leute sich wieder verabschieden, kommt mir das nur so vor, oder merkt ihr das auch?
I can completely understand wanting to differentiate from Reddit, but to me, this is a matter of convenience and priority. Putting right after the article implies commenting on the article is emphasized. Putting it at the bottom of the comment page implies a want to comment on the comments....
So after a few days of lurking Kbin and trying to understand the marvelous world of the Fediverse, I've tried keep some mental notes of the struggles I've had and some spontaneous areas of improvement that I personally would like to see....
Fun fact: a block feature is required to be accepted by the Apple AppStore review process. So Twitter will disappear from Apple devices with this change.
Since this got some votes and became visible, here's the source:
Apps with user-generated content present particular challenges, ranging from intellectual property infringement to anonymous bullying. To prevent abuse, apps with user-generated content or social networking services must include:
- A method for filtering objectionable material from being posted to the app
- A mechanism to report offensive content and timely responses to concerns
- The ability to block abusive users from the service
- Published contact information so users can easily reach you
UR isn't about user opinions or votes for [#feature#enhancements. It's about observing and analysing :mastodon: and competitors' features, its user #performance, its server logs, and its users' needs, to figure out what is/isn't working, investigate why, and then help inform #solution#design.]

make URLs for communities, users etc as flexible as possible

what happened to the fediverse in June 2023? why did everything go down?
Why is the comment form at the bottom of the thread instead of the top?
