Joe Biden could still turn this around and not lose to Trump by defunding Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people. If he doesn’t, there will be only person to blame for Joe Biden losing to Trump in six months and that’s Joe “I am a Zionist” Biden.

Meir was truly a horrible person, on many levels. Other than retorting that there's no such thing as "Palestinian people" she also thought Arabs don't really love their children that much... words can impact real life.

According to Save the Children, 3,195 children killed in three weeks in [] surpasses annual number of children killed in conflict zones since 2019.

It's so tragically obvious that #Zionism is nothing but #fascism of another ilk. Underlying is the same greed for money, land and power that signifies #Capitalism.

In the end, when all is said and done this is what it is. Fascism donning its favourite costume of #Nationalism and religious zealotry.

Pointing that out is NOT antisemitism. Get it into your bloody heads.

This is really for my non-Jewish friends...

I know to many of you, Zionism appears to be a left/right issue, that is you believe that Zionist Jews are right wing, and non or anti-Zionist Jews are left wing.

This is not the case.

Zionism is an issue that does not fall neatly in the left/right political paradigm. Early Israeli Zionism was extremely left, even Communist in nature, and modern diasporatic Jews, many of whom are left-learning, are also Zionists.

If you're a gentile and wondering where you should fall on Zionism, the answer is generally: no where.

Zionism is a Jewish issue, deeply tied to Jewish thought and the Jewish experience. It's not a matter for you to weigh in on, and it's generally not a "political" issue, even though it has political implications.

As for Babka, it is not a Zionist or non-Zionist instance. We don't exclude or gatekeep Jews based on their stance towards Zionism.

A quick reminder to all that if you say "I support Jews but not Zionists", this is still a form of antisemitism, because:

  • Being against "Zionism" means you are against the existence of the state of Israel, and being for its destruction means the death or forced expulsion of 7 million Jews

  • It's part of the "Good Jews/Bad Jews" trope

  • That being against >80% of any group is ultimately indistinguishable from hate for that group.

Just recently had to break it down in a group because it's been flaring up, figured a post would be nice.
This may seem like a Jewish specific topic, but it is important for non-Jews to know as well.
Zionism vs Anti-Zionism.
First of all, if you're a non-Jew it's best to identify with neither as for non-Jews is almost always antisemitic. (And yes I mean both).
This is a one of the biggest bones of contention in the Jewish community and is absolutely a loud argument right now due to current events. Worse yet, it's generally so because of a mix of misunderstandings and extremism.
Zionism
Originally this was the belief that the only way Jews could find some stability and safety would be to form a Jewish state. Once the state was formed, this turned into rabid support for Israel. For the milder of them, it basically boils down to patriotism... for the extremes it's nationalism
The loudest and most well represented of Zionists, however, believe basically that any criticism of Israel is inherently antisemitic, even by fellow Jews.
(How can this be antisemitic for non-jews? Short answer without derailing: Nazis are often Zionist)
Anti-Zionism
Originally this was opposition to the creation of modern Israel, though each person had their own wildly varying reasons.
After the creation, many Anti-Zionists became Zionists. For the rest it mostly transformed into minimizing and addressing the damages caused by the creation of the state (ie. the occupation of Palestine). Many do dream of the potential of dismantling the state, but don't see it as feasible because creating a new humanitarian crisis to solve another isn't an acceptable solution.
They're generally painted by Zionists as if they want to abruptly end the state without addressing the crisis it would cause. (As such even mild Zionists often believe Anti-Zionism to be inherently antisemitic)
(Non-Jews can criticize Israel, but being/identifying-as Anti-Zionist is pretty much reserved for Jews; the exception being victims of Israel)

if you support , you better start changing your language to "protecting the Zionists" rather than "the Jews", because assuming that we all support the horrific, white supremacist colonial project is incredibly antisemitic, and should be absolutely intolerable.

When some things end in your life, often there is a certain moment, a certain episode, where you know you cannot do it any longer. You know it's over. I had my final and complete disillusionment with my country the summer they shot and killed 223 and wounded thousands of demonstrators using live fire during the 'The Great March of Return'. Every weekend, from March 2018 until December 2019, Gazans would gather along the border with Israel, with thousands and thousands in attendance. They wanted to break the siege and attract the world's attention to their plight and oppression under so many years of brutal occupation, with no end in sight.

They were quiet demonstrations: no Israeli soldier was hurt in any of them (there may have been one case of counter-violence by Palestinians, and maybe not even that). Israel's murderous overreaction that time was placing tens, or maybe even hundreds of snipers in positions overlooking the border and the adjacent Gaza lands.

Those snipers shot and shot and shot people in unbelievable numbers. on May 14th, 2018, 52 Palestinians were killed in one demonstration. Rouzan al-Najjar, a 20-year-old nurse, was sniped to death two weeks later, on the 1st of June. She was hundreds if meters away from the fence. Her death may have been what broke me. Or maybe it was the complete obedience of everyone in the IDF. No one said: we cannot do that. This is insane. No one felt bad about it. I felt like I was losing my mind. Or maybe it was the big live concert at the center of Tel Aviv that very summer, given by Israel's fresh Eurovision winner, a day or two after one of the bloodiest weekends in The Great March of Return. It was a big deal, and everyone was happy and celebrating and proud.

  • On Local Call, the Hebrew version of +972 Magazine, I wrote an article titled "Accept that it is over". In that article, I also wrote that I was not going to vote in Israeli elections again, as there was no point, particularly as so many people who are ruled by Israel cannot vote.

  • 2018 seems like so long ago now. It was before Covid, before October 7th, before the genocide. But it was that summer, that year, that I knew I lost my country.

And the absolutely beautiful, angelic face of Rouzan al-Najjar brings tears to my eyes to this day. To this moment. It is such a heartache. Such a loss to this world. Such a stupid, monstrous crime.

There has to be justice for Palestine someday. There simply must be.
