#MastoMusic#Ballet#SFFF (eh oui)
At the last stage rehearsal for The Nutcracker. They just did Mother Ginger and the Polychenelles - so adorable. Going on stage soon to do the party scene with my daughter. This is our 5th time doing the party scene and it's still exciting. #ballet#theater#dancing#performance
This week on STEAM Powered, our conversation is with Eleonora Moratto, the Biology Ballerina.
A common thread between the arts and the sciences is storytelling. In both scenarios you’re building worlds, and creating an understanding of the mechanisms that make the system work (or not work), and the relationships within that bubble.
Eleonora Moratto is the Biology Ballerina. She is a freelance professional ballet dancer, and is currently completing her PhD in plant pathogen interactions. Join us as we speak about Eleonora’s work exploring electrical fields and plant immune systems, and her journey as a sciartist.
The second set was a contemporary piece called The Man in Black and set to the music of Johnny Cash. The whole show was unbelievably good and has forever changed how I view #ballet. I'm excited to see more contemporary dance in the future.
#danse#ballet
I am working on an article about pointe shoes for the Broad Street Review, a Philadelphia arts publication. I'd love to hear from dancers in the comments about their own experience with pointe shoes. (so far I've talked to teachers and directors, etc., but I want to hear from dancers.)
Not doing a hit piece--I love ballet--but want to talk about what it takes to dance on pointe, what your favorite brand of shoes are and why, and how you manage comfort, etc. And especially, if you knew back at the beginning what it would be like, would you still do it?
