Is there any dumber than assigning nationality to historical figures who were not only born centuries before said countries and borders existed, but before the idea of "nationality" and "nation" existed?
Yes. Assigning nationality to mythical figures and mythical kingdoms.
While living in #India, I taught a course that took me several times to the Deer Park in Sarnath, one of the four holiest sites in #Buddhism. It is where the #Buddha taught his first sermon on the Four Noble Truths after achieving enlightenment. The event was called "The First Turning of the Wheel of #Dhamma." This event is being commemorated today (1 August) this year by many Buddhists.
Here is where he was born, the remains of the palace in Tilaurakot, where he was raised, & the east gate of the palace from where he left to seek enlightenment.
(How I had ended up here, a few months ago, is for another day.)

I was walking from the grocery store yesterday in North Center and saw this perched carefully on the wall of a building through an alley above a discarded couch. Reminders of samsara enlightenment in the most unexpected of places.
This Buddha statue is crafted from durable sandstone and showcases the Namaskar Mudra, which symbolizes humility and unity through clasped hands at the chest.
“Out of the bosom of the Air,
Out of the cloud-folds of her garments shaken,
Over the woodlands brown and bare,
Over the harvest-fields forsaken,
Silent, and soft, and slow
Descends the snow.”
