"In his new book, #Antisemitism and the 1753 #Jew Law Controversy, author Yoel Sheridan, born and educated in #Britain, analyzes the ancient and long-enduring phenomenon of antisemitism in #England. Essentially what he demonstrates is an abiding #antisemitic element within #English society, ever ready to boil over into violence in earlier times, and later into hate speech and discrimination. Since antisemitism is essentially irrational, he demonstrates that the trigger for antisemitic action at any one time can vary with the religious, social, or political weather."
#Busted - A specialist #police officer (Roads Policing Unit) in #Yorkshire Northern #England has been sacked for #driving at 154 mph (248 km/h) in a Police vehicle without a valid reason to do so (I don't understand how he thought he'd get away with it, the vehicles are full of telemetry and surveillance kit)
Germany to construct massive power cable linking to England
Planned with a capacity of 1.4 gigawatts, the electric cable is expected to provide electricity to up to 1.5 million households. Its completion is slated for 2028. NeuConnect is predicted to elevate the security of electricity supply and positively impact prices
Thankfully, towards the end, the rain let up and allowed for a beautiful evening. We drove to a nearby walk alongside the Northern Reaches of Lancaster Canal.
The documentary was not broadcast in #Canada. Hansen said the reason B.C.’s wood pellet industry is a focus in #UnitedKingdom is the #Drax Power Station in #England.
A Brit just explained to me that a lot of homeownership in England is based on a leasehold arrangement, where you own your house, but RENT the land from a landowner. When the lease expires, the land AND THE HOUSE IT CONTAINS reverts to the landowner, even if you’ve paid for it. While leases can be extended basically indefinitely, it is possible for it to lapse and for landowners to seize the house that YOU BUILT for zero money.
Can someone confirm this? If true, that is…landlording and “generational passive income” taken to a WHOLE new level.
#US and allied intelligence officials are tracking an increase in low-level sabotage operations in Europe that they say are part of a Russian campaign to undermine support for #Ukraine’s war effort.
The covert operations have mostly been arsons or attempted arsons targeting a wide range of sites, including a warehouse in #England, a paint factory in #Poland, homes in #Latvia and, most oddly, an Ikea store in #Lithuania.
After lunch yesterday, we went to the #HistoryOfScienceMuseum in #Oxford. It’s not very big but contains some really fascinating exhibits. It is right next to the #SheldonianTheatre and well worth a visit.
Yesterday, we went on a day trip to #Oxford by #train. No other means of powered transport was used as we #cycled to and from our local #RailwayStation.
Here is the #countryside zooming past the train window.

Oh look. #Section28 has just returned via the backdoor, which is how a lot of unpleasantness takes root in the #UK these days.
"...Government sources told BBC News about plans to ban sex education for under-nines in [#England], as well as teaching about gender identity, on Wednesday.
"Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said the new guidance would ensure children were not 'exposed to disturbing content'..."
United Utilities failed to stop pumping millions of litres of sewage into Lake Windermere for 10 hrs in February & didn't report it to the Environment Agency until 13 hours after it started.
The pumping station is only permitted to discharge untreated sewage into Windermere if it’s overwhelmed by rainfall or snowmelt.
And therein lies the bigger problem: allowing privatised water companies to pump raw sewage into waterways & lakes at all.
