Courtney Love has just launched a new eight-part series about women in music on BBC Radio 6 Music and finished her memoir, "The Girl With the Most Cake." She also recently marked the 30th anniversary of both the death of her husband Kurt Cobain and the release of Hole's seminal album, "Live Through This." The Evening Standard's Dylan Jones talked to her about Taylor Swift ("not important"), Madonna ("I don't like her and she doesn't like me") and whether she's an English lady now.
I started out on the fediverse arooooound...I wanna say 2017/18 mebbe? My big start in social media was MySpace. Before that, I had a LiveJournal (which I miss mightily with all my heart). Religiously/spiritually speaking, I'm complicated. That will be a long post, when I get around to writing it. My general rule is: I have my thing. It's not everybody's thing, and that's cool. I was listening to my own music last night, which is not unusual, I listen to my own music quite a bit. I like it. But as I listened to it last night, I began to view it for the first time as a body of work. I’m not sure what it was before that moment, but as I played through the almost-hour long collection of my original songs, I was struck with the feeling that this is… a thing, a representation of something, I’m not sure what. I’m usually good with words, but I’m finding it difficult to describe the shift I felt. I know I must continue to add to this body of work, and that the work must stay true to itself. Music for the sake of music, and tunes that I personally enjoy listening to over and over again. I’m not sure if it was because I’d just binged on Ween, or maybe had too much sugar, but it was like an epiphany, and The Dgar Project has taken a new seat in my own consciousness. I am a songwriter, and this year, I’m writing songs.

Die meisten Mitglieder von Southern Riot haben bereits in Indonesien in Rock-, Metal- oder #Reggae-Bands gespielt. Zu ihren Lieblingsbands gehören die Punk-Veteranen Superman is dead, Marjinal und Bunga Hitam, die Hardrock-Band Boomerang und die #Grunge-Band #Cupumanik, alle aus #Indonesien, sowie die #Ramones, #NOFX und Bob Marley.
Die Band ist für sie zweite Familie und bietet ihnen ein Zuhause in Taiwan. Einer von ihnen betont, die Band und der Punk halte ihn über Wasser, sodass er den Stress auf der Arbeit ertragen könne.
Keine Botschaft mit Metal
Ein anderer beschreibt, dass der Druck durch Chef, Vorarbeiter und Arbeitsvermittler Gefühle erzeuge, die dann in die Musik der Band einflössen. Punkmusik und -texte drückten diese Emotionen gut aus. Früher habe er kritische Texte für Reggae-Musik geschrieben, aber daraus seien nie richtige Songs geworden. Metal sei auch ein Genre, mit dem Emotionen ausgedrückt werden könnten, fügt er hinzu. Botschaften könnten mit Metal jedoch nicht vermittelt werden. Die Texte würden gegrölt und seien so nur schwer zu verstehen. (...)
Eines der Bandmitglieder sagt, Punk bedeute für ihn, über Unterdrückung zu sprechen. Wenn die Texte dieses Thema nicht berühren, „fehlt ihnen der Sinn“. Ein anderes Bandmitglied betont, dass Punk für Widerstand und soziale Bewegung steht, nicht bloß für laute Musik und Zerstörung. Er sagt, die Musik von Southern Riot solle ihre Sozialkritik und die Beschwerden der Wanderarbeiter:innen in Taiwan rüberbringen.
Das klingt dann zum Beispiel so wie in dem Liebeslied der indonesischen Wanderarbeiter:innen (Lagu cinta dari BMI):

Ist es nicht Eure Aufgabe, uns zu helfen und für unsere Rechte einzutreten?
Wir wurden unserer Rechte beraubt, zum Schweigen gebracht durch Einschüchterung.
