#owncast is a free and open source live video streaming server, that can also connect to the rest of the #fediverse in a variety of ways.

Sad to hear about #Firefish, but it's something to keep in mind.
If one person is keeping a project alive and is unable to build a long term, sustainable team around the project, relying only on that individual, that project is fragile.
Apropos of nothing, I'd love if I could build a long term, sustainable team around #owncast, if this sparks your interest at all! If I get hit by a bus tonight, Owncast is dead tomorrow.
New blog post! I wanted to write about future #Owncast features and how they tie into the #Fediverse, because when you don't have people to blab to about them, you blog about them.
Imagine being a hosting service and coming to the Fedi to promote your services by hosting an #owncast and it tops out at 4 users and never stops buffering. 🤣
Oh and ALSO your chat is a DISCORD chat instead of the default Owncast chat. 🤣
Hmmmm #fediverse/ #selfhosting experiment question, what's the most effective balance of low effort and high value between rolling my own:
#Matrix Instance (I must have a discord bridge too, I know 0 people using matrix)
#Mastodon instance (probably single user instance...can I somehow HOST my posts on sirtaptap.com but still view via mastodon.social? federation sounds intensive & complex)
#Owncast (sounds relatively simple and 0 server cost when not streaming, right?)
Why is #raspberrypi 4B (still) so expensive?
I've spent hours searching for an affordable set price and most sellers sell it brand new for €100 on average. 😩
Even on #eBay it's more or less same price - sometimes even for just the board.
I doubt this to be the case, but if anyone found a #EU set for cheap please do share.
I'm tempted to start using #Owncast because I want a federated #Twitch replacement. What keeps me from doing it is the sheer cost of video.
Because screenshots really don't do justice for a game like Extreme-G 2. It really is awful, and only seeing a video can make you appreciate how herky-jerky is.
On another note, I own 7,000 video games. I'd love to do these games justice by archiving video just so the rest of the world can see them in action. They really do deserve to be remembered.
I want to find more people using #Owncast, but it seems like it's just as hard (if not harder) as finding new #PeerTube channels! :blobcatsadlife: #Discovery is a difficult part of the #Fediverse and #Federated platforms in-general.

So now that we know that the software we're using, and you wrote, can't ever work, I guess we'll just pack it in huh? /s

Ich versuche verzweifelt #Owncast auf #macOS zu installieren (macOS 14.0 Sonoma, Apple Silicon). Die Installation scheint zu funktionieren, aber Owncast startet nicht.
Die Berechtigungen sollten eigentlich passen. Ich hab’s auch schon als sudo und in den unterschiedlichsten Verzeichnissen probiert.
Dieses Internet scheint bei dem Problem keine Hilfe zu sein. Finde jedenfalls nix.
There are a few methods, pick the best for you. Here's an example, using the installation script. No npm, no pip, no Ruby gems. Just get up and running, so you can start streaming.
I have an account on both misskey and calckey instances and #owncast announcements seem to be formatted in a way that breaks the link to join the channel
Toward our goal of celebrating each other we're scheduling a 24 hour distributed stream parade for new years day.
This one is not just music, there will be watch parties, premieres, hangouts, performances, discussions, djs, gaming and whatever else anyone wants to bring to the table.
Let's hang and drum up some interest for our casting friends and self powered streaming.
