Nice to see the Pleroma team getting an NLNet grant so development can pick back up. I missed it when it happened but apparently there was a big shakeup with the Pleroma dev team. I'm glad they seem to be recovering from that and hopefully we'll see some sustained progress with Pleroma again.
@fediverse Let's face it. When talking about the Fediverse, it is very hard to sell interoperability between different types of instances as a major advantage.
#Tusky is a classic app, available also on F-Droid. There exists more members... #Pachli was started based on Tusky 23. And there are #Husky (adding #Pleroma specific stuff) and #Yuito.
so far in terms of my desired features and rough usage here at blahaj, it seems that either #pleroma or #akkoma is what i want. unless there is an even more lightweight one that isn't microblog.pub?
Journalists are realising Mastodon and the Fediverse is not so complicated to use after all
As Notopoulos writes, the Fediverse is a better, more user-centric social media concept than the one we currently have, where you amass followers on a single platform then lose them if that platform dies or becomes bad and you decide to quit. Federated social ...continues
How can the one we have be better than the one we have?
Perhaps it would have been clearer if the latter was presented in past tense - the one we had?
#Mastodon_social does not, however, qualify, since it is itself the deprecated model, considering it's just another monolithic silo itself in most respects.
Journalists are also realizing stock Mastodon isn't acceptable either due to a paltry 500 char limit; #Friendica, #Mitra, #Pleroma, #Firefish - much better!
Hallo Fediverse!
Insbesondere Friendica, Firefish und v.a.
Wenn Ihr also Anregungen oder Ergänzungen habt, gerne her damit! Danke!
🧵 Hey all! This is a new account, I'm still Zecharias Zelalem, freelance journalist and aspiring OSINTer providing news and analysis on the Horn of Africa for a variety of international media outlets. For the past year or so, I posted via @zekuzelalem, but I've transitioned away from that instance. I'll be posting from this account from now on. After recent changes on the journa dot host instance, I had no choice but to set up elsewhere. Hope to continue exchanges and friendships here.
I don’t have time to check my socials during a busy workday so I usually browse in the evenings or weekends. Oh boy. Just went through reading hundreds of comments.
Never experienced anything like this on other social media platforms before. Even on LinkedIn when my update got viral once and had like hundreds of thousands of impressions I’ve never got as much comments than on here on a regular Monday!
@rolle just to correct you, will ask a few questions:
You're stating that #Fediverse is social, but you only saying so, just because you got a huge number of followers. People from 0-35 to 100 followers don't get that much attention, unlike you. At least, that's how Mastodon's algorithm specifically works, unlike Friendica's and other networks's algorithms!
Keep in mind, that #Mastodon isn't "Fediverse". Fediverse is a huge large, as I call it, "collection" of many (as I call them) "projects" (or "networks" if you want to call it that way), that includes #Friendica , #Diaspora (many people mention that network but nobody discusses/recommends it, which is weird. Plus, Friendica is the only one Fediverse project that supports Diaspora protocol, so how on the Earth does Diaspora counts as a part of Fediverse, I gotta no clue, buddy!), #Pleroma , #BookWyrm , #Pixelfed and #Mastodon too (didn't listed them all, but you got my point, I think, right?).
@crossgolf_rebel
My #Fediverse viewer now supports any server type (as long as the server's APIs are correctly configured)!
Find out if a server is right for you based on custom emojis, character limit, users, translation, and more.
Ya know, since projects like @nodebb have mentioned wanting to bring in #ActivityPub federation, I realise that that could end up being a strength of AP's implementations - choosing your preferred format of discussion.
A lot of us have been lamenting the loss of small community forums in favour of Discord servers, and Discord's own built-in forums leave something to be desired.
But it's struck me that since #Lemmy/#Kbin communities are easy enough to participate in on services like #Mastodon, #Pleroma and #Firefish - Why wouldn't federated message boards be the same way?
Hell, why couldn't a message board have a forum that's just a subscription to a link-sharing community? Why couldn't Lemmy/Kbin users be able to follow a forum?
There's some exciting inter-operability ideas to be had as software grows around this standard.
Like, everyone outside of Mastodon must issue a #CW if they use
bold type
italics
a code block
a bullet-point list
or anything like that because it irritates those who are still used to the #Fediverse only being old-school Mastodon. You know, just like #LongPosts with over #500Characters.
But most people will hear about #mastodon first and there are many #mastodon instances with longer limits that would suit those people perfectly, if only they could find them easily.
Pleroma Blog - We got a grant from NLNet! (pleroma.social)
Nice to see the Pleroma team getting an NLNet grant so development can pick back up. I missed it when it happened but apparently there was a big shakeup with the Pleroma dev team. I'm glad they seem to be recovering from that and hopefully we'll see some sustained progress with Pleroma again.
