Wix’s new AI chatbot builds websites in seconds based on prompts
"There are also bits of AI sprinkled in here and there for prompting image and text creation. (Wix told The Verge when it announced the website generator last year that it was using “out of the box models” like DALL-E for this and OpenAI’s ChatGPT for text creation.)"
#Eurovision / The fact the world is missing is that threatening to ban Israel from participating in the Eurovision Song Contest, would have had much bigger impact than any #ICJ ruling against it. Israelis are addicted to attention, and pity.
Feel bad for Eden Golan. Representing Israel while your country is standing accused of #genocide must be morally challenging for her … or maybe not?
Q: How are you preparing for the public diplomacy [hasbara] front?
[…] I'm planning a huge and powerful Eurovision number. I want to show everyone how strong we are.
[…] I have a huge team behind me that will help me, that will get me ready for this. All we need to do is bring our truth. I will bring this truth, because we have nothing to hide.
Note to self: “having nothing to hide” is the literally the antonym of #Hasbara 🙈 … maybe her #Hebrew is not that great?
The heated debate over Israel's participation in #Eurovision reveals a deep-seated desire among Israelis to be seen as European. For a significant portion of the population originating as migrants and refugees from Eastern Europe, Israel served as a place to shed their "Oriental" identities and reinvent themselves. Like a manager at the startup #Wix notoriously demanded of its staff, who were encouraged to support Israel’s ‘narrative’ in #Hamas conflict:
“Show Westernity [...] unlike the Gazans, we look and live like Europeans or Americans”
However, the inherent contradiction is that if Israel is accepted, or is part of Europe, or merely Exists because of European colonialism, then it's unavoidably also exposed as a colonial project.
This poignant opinion column, by Noa Limona, perpetuates the debate over Israel's empty symbolic gestures and its cynical exploitation of a grim reality of a forever-war.
"October Rain" well represents what Israel offers to the world. They're talking about a political solution to the conflict, a vision of "the day after", but what is the return that we offer? A vision devoid of vision, a solution devoid of solution, some moaning about our misery, "Haven't the Jewish people suffered enough?", and that's it. More of the same thing, which essentially contains nothing and nothing at all.
This is how we are perceived in the world, this is how the world sees us, and we have become repugnant to it.

I'm going mad. Is there a simple solution to creating a small e-commerce website? With #WordPress you're paying for multiple premium plugins and it's just bonkers. It's like being caught in a web.
Hi all. Hope everyone is doing well. It's about to be 3:00 AM here, and I'm about to get some sleep, but before I do, I wanted to ask for #advice from those who might know more about #technology, creating #websites, and #accessibility than I do. My mom runs a #construction#business and has a website she designed herself with drag and drop on #GoDaddy. She owns the #domain it's on and wants to move the site for a few reasons: it keeps getting hacked and she's getting a lot of spam and scam messages, customer service is poor, and GoDaddy isn't very #accessible with #ScreenReaders, so I can't help her manage her website at all. I've done some research and seen that other recommended no-code website builders are #Wix, #Squarespace, and #Weebly, but I can't find a lot of information on their accessibility. I've seen posts on #Reddit recommending hiring someone to design your website, but we don't know anyone who could do that, and our budget probably wouldn't be high enough. My mom isn't great with #tech and really needs a no-code solution. Does anyone know about the accessibility of website builders like the ones I mentioned, or can you suggest another one that might work? Thanks. #blind@mastoblind

The Verge's Nilay Patel chats with Wix CEO Avishai Abraham about the future of the web, adoption of generative AI technology and the impact of the Israel-Hamas war on content that appears on the Wix, which is based in Israel.
The Visual Studio Installer just assumes it’s the only tool on your system that needs workloads or the SDKs you have installed so it just yeets them whenever it feels like it doesn’t need them.
@ladeak@khalidabuhakmeh That's exactly how I designed it, yes. Other installers can take a reference - which I first introduced with #WiX and burn - to preserve the dependency. Last one uninstalled cleans up. Both burn and VS Setup do it, as did the .NET installer last I checked. It's easy registration.
We had so many more complaints on not cleaning up that it was an (unfunny) joke.
Multiple VS instances track package references, so shared components VS knows about aren't removed prematurely.
This Eretz Nederet (“wonderful country”) sketch reminds me of Marx’s (Groucho, not Karl) refusal to “join any club that would have him as a member.”
Israelis played the “Westerners” card for such a long time (see #Wix’s “unlike the Gazans, we look and live like Europeans or Americans”, https://kolektiva.social/@oatmeal/111301431836475388 or #hasbara classic “the only Democracy in the Middle East”) they sort of forgot there simply aren’t many Western democracies brutally occupying another people and every now and then kill their children for measure.
So “I’m done with the global Left” is now trending (not that there many lefties left in #Israel, but still) and we have this clip to make sure the global Left understands we’re done.
#Wix#Israel#Palestine#Gaza#Hamas#Ireland#Dublin: "An Israeli software company that employs 500 staff in Dublin encouraged its employees to create content supporting “Israel’s narrative” in the country’s conflict with Hamas militants in Gaza, leaked internal messages show.
One message in an internal company discussion, set up by a manager in the days after the Hamas attack in southern Israel, encouraged employees to “show Westernity” in social media posts backing Israel, as “unlike the Gazans, we look and live like Europeans or Americans”, it said.
The message was one of several circulated to Wix employees on Slack, a messaging app used by the company to communicate internally, seen by The Irish Times.

A Dublin employee of Wix was sacked for posting that Israel is a terrorist state. In the Dáil, the Taoiseach said that she should seek legal advice under Irish employment law.

Wix fires Irish employee for Gaza support, tells staff to “join a company initiative to create videos and creative campaigns”, to “support Israel’s narrative” … “show Westernity” in posts, as “unlike the Gazans, we look and live like Europeans and Americans”. It’s “very important to emphasise this in texts and images so that they feel close to us”
@aral 'These included advice to “show Westernity” in posts, as “unlike the Gazans, we look and live like Europeans and Americans”'
So...#Wix is blaming the Gazans for ... checks notes ... being the largest open air prison in the world under the brutal control of the IDF?! Am I reading this right?
#Hasbara (advocacy or propaganda in Hebrew), is an oiled machine, which didn't work very well this time (like everything that's failing under #Netanyahu's watch). Israelis are thus invited to help on #socialmedia
The (unofficial) field guide suggests that:
Choose a platform where you feel comfortable, think of a specific angle where you can contribute, and follow trends on social media: You don't have to be social media stars to help advocacy efforts - these are the tips to help you get started.
Connect to what's trending
On social media it's fairly easy to identify what's currently viral, what topics are hot (trendy), and which hashtags are making more noise. When you create advocacy content, it's worthwhile to connect to trends and various hashtags, for which the network will continue to increase exposure. One of the prominent hashtags during the fighting days, for example, is "HamasIsISIS" - intended to create an equivalence in consciousness between terror organizations. On Twitter it's relatively easy to see exactly what's on the trending list - since there's a detailed list by region. On other networks, you can identify by hashtags appearing alongside especially popular videos and content.
Amplify existing materials
Since the start of fighting, private civilian initiatives for Israeli advocacy have begun operating. There are platforms organizing explanatory materials, testimonies, interviews, and videos in different languages. There are systems that identify content on social media and allow quick sharing, and even suggest what to write in English. And there are also platforms that assist in reverse advocacy - organizing inciting and hateful content and allowing you to easily report them. Here is a list of such systems to assist you in advocacy efforts:
Iron Words: A platform for sharing and distributing advocacy on Twitter. Simply enter and receive shareable content, including some words in English.
Iron Lions: An AI21 smart system that translates testimonies into English and creates a sequence of ready-made stories for uploading and sharing on social media.
Wondering how #wix turning itself into an #hasbara operation and inserting itself into a white supremacist “clash of civilizations” discourse gonna pass with creatives.
