While content is federated currently, isn’t. And while that doesn’t diminish the decentralized nature of the , having a single identity — that a user fully controls — would make it easier to sign up for multiple apps. My analysis of recent discussions here featuring @evanprodromou, @rabble, @deadsuperhero, @timbray, @osma & others. https://thenewstack.io/one-login-towards-a-single-fediverse-identity-on-activitypub/

Great seeing @ChrisPirillo I appear at the 10:30 mark. Chris forgot to vlog us at his first stop at OSS, as mentioned at the 6:42 mark. (Looking forward to the interview we did for @thenewstack talking about my efforts at @FrameworkPuter ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Juvyvgpm4SE

I used to be proud that Boeing planes were made in Seattle. Now I’m actually scared to fly on them. The McDonnell Douglas merger was the worst thing that ever happened to American aerospace.

This whistleblower’s death is profoundly suspicious.

UPDATE: as of TODAY i have been kicked out by my roomie

so i'm here to ask for three things:

1. housing in seattle

this is the biggest one. i am now so desperate i'm looking for couches to crash on temporarily right away, but also i'd like to seek out something medium to long term so i have time to get my shit together. i'm currently broke and unemployed, with no family or anything to support me, so i can't really pay rent or anything like that yet (i am aware of how huge an ask this is). i will update this post if that changes. and hopefully it will, because...

2. job leads

i'm currently doing my best to job search. after having an utterly sanity-destroying time working in fast food pre-pandemic, that drove me to the brink of suicide, i am extremely wary of fast food or retail and have basically set the hard limit that i can't do anything public-facing for my own mental health's sake. my various mental illnesses further complicate matters, but i'm trying my best to find something that will work for me. my work portfolio is at https://vanta.work

3. donations to keep me going in the meantime

and finally, i'm requesting donations to help keep me afloat. no real goal here, i can tell i'm gonna need as much slack as possible cut to avoid things going south... so, seriously, anything helps give me a bit more breathing room. thank you so much 🖤

Microsoft Reversi debuted in Windows 1 (1985). It featured an AI opponent & was included through Windows 3 (1990). It was replaced in Windows 3.1 (1992) by Microsoft Solitaire (CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?). An online co-op version of the game appeared in Windows ME (2000) & XP (2001). 🔵

Here's a truth for you -- especially if you haven't hit your 40s yet, maybe not even your 30s.

The truth is this:

Nobody knows what the fuck they're doing.
If someone seems like they have their shit together, either they are presenting you with a completely false front, or they are in a season of The Total Occasional Fluke of Everything Apparently Going Right and Coming Together.

But what are we really doing? Nobody knows. WE'RE ALL JUST DOING WHAT WE CAN WITH THE TOOLS WE HAVE AT THE TIME.

When I can only share anecdotal experiences of working really hard on smartphone reviews only to have that content buried by Google and YouTube, I'm often told I "just need to make better content".
Yet every day, we're hearing from more folks complaining about changes in search and algorithms harming smaller sites and publishers.
This write up from HouseFresh is WELL detailed on how larger publishers are banking on their reputations to game Google search and sell garbage to their readers.
https://housefresh.com/david-vs-digital-goliaths/

You can't "better content" your way out of a problem like this when audience search is rigged against you.

Do you, or have you ever, used a graphical user interface? If you use , , or any version of with a window manager or desktop environment, you can thank Dr. Clarence "Skip" Ellis.

Dr. Ellis worked at Xerox PARC, the research organization that developed the modern GUI. Icons, windows, the mouse, Ethernet-based networking, laser printing - all of these (and more) came out of PARC. Dr. Ellis led the team that created Officetalk, the first program to use icons and the Internet. He got his start at 15 years old showing a local tech company how to reuse punch cards, which was a game-changer back in 1958.

Oh, and he was also the first black man to earn a PhD in Computer Science.
