Scientists are clear we need to farm and eat less meat to help the planet and our health.

Politicians not only ignore them, they continue to subsidize the meat industry.

But ,one of the largest pork exporters in the world, has become the first country in the world to publish a roadmap to make its food system more plant-based.

A few years later, I found in a second-hand bookstore a copy of his Alternative London, which became something of an underground bible in in the 1970s-80s.

Today, The Guardian has a great article about this counterculture pioneer who was passionate about spreading knowledge and changing the way people lived.

A new study by @nasa JPL researchers found that the ice sheet lost more mass from 1985 to 2022 than previously estimated, mostly from below sea level.

The ice loss from glacial retreat has had only an indirect impact on sea level rise, but could affect the global ocean currents that transport heat and salt.

This issue has arisen from intensive poultry production farms. The excrement from hundreds of thousands of chickens has been allowed to run off, without any proper mitigation, straight into the river system.

Industrial farming is one of the worst crimes in history.

The US government will charge oil and gas companies a fee for excess emissions.

The fee would start at $900 per ton of methane in 2024 and increase to $1,500 per ton in 2026.

Unlike carbon dioxide, which stays in the atmosphere for centuries, methane only lasts for about a decade. According to a UN report, reducing methane emissions by 45% by 2030 could avoid nearly 0.3°C of global warming by the 2040s.

A Conversation With a Climate Denier. 😩

Yesterday evening in a friend's house I met a climate denier for the first time in a while.

We had a conversation about climate change. It went on about like this (photo 👇 ) and it cost me a night's sleep.

Enjoy!

According to a survey conducted by YouGov in 2020 (graph by Statista 👇) climate change deniers are not a tiny minority. It depends where one lives, whether your country's income depends on fossil fuels, or the degree of fake news and conspiracies theories.

It’s also difficult to say for certain whether their number is decreasing worldwide, as there are many different opinions and perspectives on the topic.

Incredible discovery !

Huge ancient city found in the Amazon challenges the Eurocentric view of civilisation and shows that ancient people lived in sophisticated urban societies in the Amazon, not just in small nomadic groups.

The city consisted of thousands of rectangular platforms arranged around plazas, connected by straight roads and canals2. Some of the features are unprecedented in South America.

Norway becomes the first country to approve deep-sea mining, that is extracting minerals, such as cobalt and nickel from the seabed at depths greater than 200 meters.

Deep-sea mining can cause severe and irreversible harm to global ocean ecosystems, already threatened by the climate and biodiversity crises.

Capitalism reinforces consumerism. Our constant pursuit of material possessions has resulted in environmental destruction. Can we put an end to it?

How many species will Earth lose to climate change?

New study suggests that even under intermediate climate change scenarios, we could see the extinction of 3 to 6 million (or possibly more) animal and plant species within the next 50 years.

The loss of species can lead to a destabilization of ecosystems, and if not reversed, it can ultimately result in total ecosystem collapse.
