Sometimes I'm tempted to start some sort of "#NoBlockChallenge", where people go a week without using the #block button, and just use the report button instead. I really want people to see what it looks like when moderation reacts to their concerns in a matter of hours.

Honestly, any moderation team that isn't actively going after things you can't tolerate on your timeline is either not doing their job or not aligned with what you want out of the network: if reporting instead of blocking doesn't significantly improve your timeline on its own, you're probably on the wrong server.

More like the native population, after being murderized for several months, began to support violence against the invading forces, because that is literally always the problem with trying to control an area with a resistant native population. The US learned this the hard way in Afghanistan, where the Taliban were as strong during the pull out as they were at the beginning of the war.

Netanyahu has put himself in a conflict that does not have an end point, other than ceasefire or complete genocide, which is likely by design, as the moment the war ends his prosecution will begin again.

This is a highly simplistic view of a complicated situation, and also assumes the Netanyahu regime or its successors will even stop with Palestine: Jordan, Egypt, and many other countries could become the next "Breathing Room". Israel will not last forever against its ever-growing list of adversaries, only when it has leaders who are willing to make peace.

We should teach the in public schools.

The three religions most active in all claim to believe in at least the first half of this book, and it is the most misquoted and misrepresented book on the planet, because most of the have never read it.

In a functional , it is unacceptable for so much of the voting base to be completely ignorant on a factor which drives policy on such a massive scale.

The Biden administration has not opened the border, he is not far left, and Republicans have both caused part of the border crisis and actively impeded efforts to resolve it.

Is this person going to repeat actual facts, or just repeat misinformation the Trump campaign is blasting as if that would be helpful? Because none of us have any control over what kind of lies the Trump campaign will say, and everything we do is irrelevant to that because they can just say whatever lies they want.

Someone telling us that we need to respond to those lies as if they are truth is not worth listening to.

So like, is a real site? I keep hearing about it, but I've been on the wait list for months, The feed is private so I have no idea what's going on there, and I've never even seen a screen cap of that interface...

Is anything actually like happening there? Does anyone actually like go there? Is it even active?

From what I can tell, 90% of the people who are going to Twitter alternatives are coming here to Mastodon. BlueSky, being invite only, hasn't even been able to achieve any sort of momentum...

Does anyone else remember ? That thing Google made that was way better than , but they never actually released it, so people set up accounts on invites that just ended up being mostly unused?

I feel like , like most , isn't paying attention to history, and doesn't get that you need to hit hard and fast with these, and get as many switches as possible while there's hype, like (the spyware app) at least seems to be attempting...

Guys, if you post something publicly on the web, any web enabled program can see it, including bots.

Your profile and your posts on here are public, unless set otherwise. Whether or not a Facebook owned service is federating with us doesn't really change that: if they want to see your posts, they could just send a crawler to look over them.

The only thing that they get by you following an account is knowing that your account over here, which they can already see, is following an account on their server. In fact, they kind of have to do that in order to show whoever you followed on their server that you are following them. Literally every server on Fedi does that.

Don't get me wrong, they definitely shouldn't be trusted, but the panic is pretty unwarranted for the amount of new potential for damage.

Hey @leontrolski, welcome to TechHub, and the Fediverse network we're part of!

There should be an automatic onboarding system to help you get started, but in the meantime, here's a tip...

There's no algorithm here, we build our own feeds by following Hashtags, and posts get seen by using those hashtags, so be sure to follow some hashtags and use hashtags in your posts. There's also a special hashtag, "", that we use specifically for new members who want to introduce themselves: you should go right a little post about yourself with that hashtag and any other hashtags that you want to interact with the followers of.

What are people's feelings on using the FediBlock tag for calling out individual accounts? Personally, I find it mildly annoying at best, in that most of these accounts are already acted upon by staff, but potentially harmful at worse if people are going there instead of immediately clicking the report button, or even worse, using it to call out a user by finding one of their worst out of context posts and putting it on blast.

Honestly, I'm using it as a tool to scope out instances that we need to block because they are literal Nazis, literal pedos, literally attempting to harass people off of the network, or otherwise bad faith. I would rather it not come into play for individual accounts, but be advance warning for when the actual staff of a server is the problem.

What do people think though? Is there a perspective I'm missing?

Just wanted to point out, with the ongoing #spam attack on #fediverse / #misskey / #mastodon, this kind of happens on every social network. The only reason you are hearing about it is because #moderation #staff is normal users who use the normal channels to talk about it, and we actually take it way more seriously than the corporate social networks do.

Like, this represents most of the traffic on #Twitter, and they don't seem to care, so it speaks volumes about the fact that you can see us talking about how we don't want that here.

I really don't like how all these phone from have primed me to suspect everyone with an accent of being a scammer. It feels racist to think about, and I know the vast majority of indians aren't engaging in this sort of organized crime, and it's their government's fault for enabling it.

Hopefully international pressure can get the Indian government to do something about the level of organized crime in their country.

Weird bug in #Akkoma and #Mastodon interaction, thought #FediStaff / #Staff, #FediDev, and #FediMod / #Moderation people might want to see this.

Got a #report about a user saying things that were upsetting people, noticed it was from another instance, realized that I had access to the actual account that had sent it. Not sure what this is or why, didn't even realize #ActivityPub supported signed reports (I'd honestly like to get more), but obviously that's a risky thing if they didn't know it was happening and didn't know why.

Does anyone know what this is?

Thinking about how is great for / , because not only do science deniers have less reach on this site without their , but we have servers dedicated to various scientific fields, moderated by members of that community. This gives them an easy way to talk to each other, as a small community, which simultaneously functions as a way for them to talk in public in front of all of us, so we can see what they're working on, and chime in.

That's what's great about : every group can find a space that's uniquely tailored to them, but still connected to the whole world.
