That’s not even getting into its impact on #climatechange
The thing is Ai is a tool of capitalism as much as guns are a tool of war. Sure they can exist outside those roles, but the reality they make both war and capitalism deadlier and more costly.

Given the implementations I see now, I have no reason to be even slightly optimistic about what we call Ai.
Also, no artist has ever asked for this, and most have had their livelihoods jepardized by how it. But sure, let’s keep pretending we’re doing them a favor.

I'm starting to think there will be business opportunities that are branded as "AI-free" much like food is branded Organic.

I used to be involved in political demonstrations a lot more when I was younger. I still see their value.
People would tell me, I shouldn't expect the demonstration to 'work', ie I shouldn't expect it to change the thing I'm protesting. I don't.
My take has always been that we demonstrate mostly to change ourselves, to give each other courage and resolve to do the small day-to-day small things and work that create real change.
That's still why I get up each morning. The work still needs doing
I just had an eye opening interaction with a crreator I follow on #youtube I asked them if they would consider opening a line of communication outside of #twitter like on #mastodon or #threads and they had not actually heard of mastodon.
They seemed very curious about it though, and I explained what the site was and the appeal of it to me.
I think its easy enough for many of us to forget that some people just don't know about mastodon.
Playing through #earthboundbeginnings and even though it is very obvious a lot of the graphics and songs were eventually brought to #earthbound , I still get surprised about what actually originated from here.

Growth at any cost should not be the goal of #fediverse. I feel establishing a community and an identity of it's own should be our main focus.
Anyone who has been to #twitter and #reddit within the last couple of years know how exhausting the users can be. Meanwhile, I've enjoyed #mastodon and #lemmy because the userbase here has been more welcoming and friendly.
However, the more lemmy grows, the more it feels like reddit. I would hate for masto to feel more like twitter.
About a month ago, I was pondering cutting the internet out of my life entirely. With the web becoming more centralized in the hands of billionaires, and sites like #twitter and #reddit becoming more hostile to marginalized people, I thought about giving it up entirely. I was more or less just logging on to fufill an addiction.
Ever since joining #mastodon and #kbin, I'm actually excited to participate online again.
Doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results may not be the correct definition of insanity, but it is the definition of American #protest culture. You can’t defend someone if you refuse to actually defend. Fighting for what’s right is just that; a fight.
If there’s one lesson we should have learned over the past two decades, it’s no amount of playing by the rules will protect you from being portrayed and punished as a #anarchist.
