She sounds like one of those people who thinks if she throws words like "racist" around enough & uses enough code words, she is somehow justified in throwing out baseless accusations.
If anyone wants me to think another account is racist, homophobic, etc, then please show me your evidence. I was burned too often in my early days on Twitter by the childish, self-appointed Social Media Police.
I'm not a zombie or a sheep. I don't block someone just because you told me to, "Karen."
Some high-income #Hollywood actors, like #TomCruise, have whined that they still should be able to promote their big-budget projects, in defiance of #SAGAFTRA#strike rules.
#TheRock donated a "seven-figure" amount to the #SAGAFTRAfoundation, to help striking actors. His donation is expected to help 7K to 10K members pay their bills.
@GottaLaff
As I recall, #Elon ran a company called "X-dot-com" (spelling it here so it doesn't open a link) before it merged w/ another company which had actually developed #PayPal. Then he was only CEO of the new company for mere months before they fired his a$$. He also named his kid something like "X AE A-12" or some such nonsense.
It will be interesting to see how long it takes him to figure out that you can't trademark a letter of the alphabet as a company name.😂
100 #Animators quit during filming for #SpiderManAcrossTheSpiderVerse, who were required to work 7 days/week, 11 hrs/day to make deadlines. Producers repeatedly required changes to already-animated sequences, making for a whole new "level of craziness."
(Payment for animators is usually by scene. So if you have to remake a mostly completed scene 5 times, your hourly pay is 1/5th of what it originally was.)
#TomBaker is trending on that other site, but don't worry, he's okay. He's only trending because it's very important that you see Tom Baker covered in #kittens.🥰
And now, something good: the Crest Theater in West Los Angeles is being renamed in honor of Leonard Nimoy. Being restored to full glory as the UCLA Nimoy Theater.
When people say that all superheroes are inherently fascist, they're ignoring the very real reasons superheroes were invented (mostly by immigrant Jews before and after WWII as a warning against fascism), and extremely specific examples of superhero antifascism like this. https://dmv.community/@akuchling/110407861811807513
There has long been an reluctance in #ComicBooks and #superhero media to mention political topics. Other than #FrankMiller's original #DarkKnight stories, political stances were verboten, back to a #JFK cameo in 1963.
But instead of being viewed as an endorsement of liberal democrat policies by Big Blue, it incorrectly established #Superman as a conformist & establishmentarian.
And as #fascism has taken over establishment #GOP politics, he is now silenced by "bipartisanship."
Definitely true. I was addressing the large corporate #superhero characters of the #DCU and the #MCU, espec #Superman, #Batman, and #CaptainAmerica, as they are the ones discussed most prominently in the articles linked in this thread.
As instance #admin I do NOT want to moderate DMs. The last three spam waves from mastodon.social however were sent as DMs.
I therefore urge @Gargron to make it the default that DMs can only be send between users that have a follow relationship.
The current default is that anyone can send anyone DMs. I consider this to be a loophole that spammers will continue to exploit, causing a lot of extra work for site admins in an area they should keep out of, in the interest of user privacy.
My only concern would be not knowing for sure that the Admin would see some important request or issue, that it might get buried in their many alerts & mentions, and not get seen.
I do think DMs should generally be kept between mutual follows, but only as a matter of etiquette, not by technical mandate-- certainly not if the acct being DM'd is an Admin.
There are some disadvantages to having a big responsibility, and dealing with idiots is unfortunately one of those.
Yes, at calckey.social, we blocked mastodonapp.uk. This was not an arbitrary decision.
We received multiple reports of transphobia from mastodonapp.uk, with no action being taken from their mods. For the safety of our users, many who are transgender, we had to initiate defederation.
This was not a choice we made lightly, but our community’s safety comes first.
I would hope that it was somehow standard practice for admins of instances which block entire instances, to somehow notify or at least toot out to users on the "To-Be-Blocked" instance that not only are they getting blocked, but the reason(s) for it.
Especially now, with a huge influx of users from the Bird Site who are unfamiliar with the protocols & structure here, that would seem a necessity.
If you see an account named thegx.ca/forum (thegx@…) pop up on your servers please suspend it. Some bastard has been setting up spam accounts all over. I’ve lost count of how many I’ve blocked and it’s getting annoying.
1/ For the record: These accounts have been following me, and I have been getting a new one every so often. Like others here, I haven't seen any activity from them in my feed, and they seem to merely be building a following.
To post #SoundFiles on #Mastodon:
You do NOT have to make a #YouTube video, like in Twitter. You can post a #WAV or similar file right inside your toot. Insert it in as you would a photo, but search for the sound file on your device.
"Audio files can be any length, as long as the file size is under 40 MBs. The supported formats are MP3, OGG, WAV, FLAC, OPUS, AAC, M4A and 3GP." - @feditips
I'm afraid I'm not experienced enough with those situations to comment on that intelligently.
I just know that prior to getting on Mastodon, I always had to first post my #voiceover sample files on #SoundCloud, or be tech savvy enough (and have ample time) to create #YouTube videos for each of them, before posting to social media.
Now, I can just post my existing #voiceacting samples directly to my toots.🎙️🐘
