Former governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee:

“If these tactics end up working to keep Trump from winning or even running in 2024, it is going to be the last American election that will be decided by ballots rather than bullets”

This is sedition

This man knows what he’s saying

Treat him the way he deserves to be treated.

aethervision,

@flexghost people le like Huckabee and his daughter have been saying that’s since they lost the first US civil war. Granted, it’s weird to see them do it without their white hoods, but I figure the air conditioning was off in the studio that day.

Are there any star trek episodes that deal with biological incompatibility with alien computer display color spaces?

I feel like there should be a TNG episode where like Barclay or someone is in a bind on an alien space craft because he can't read a computer screen because the color gamut is entirely UV. The day is saved when Geordie pops by and he can read it just fine with his visor thingy.

aethervision,

@aeva Oddly enough, if anyone can read UV, it’s Barclay because he’s definitely on the spectrum.

So let me get this straight. Mark Meadows testified that he got involved in the fake electors scheme because (checks notes) he would be afraid Trump would yell at him if he didn’t? That’s his defense? Trump is mean and I was scared of him?

@georgetakei If “I was just following orders” didn’t pass muster at the Nuremberg Trials, how the Hell can they apply here?

Does Mitch McConnell have a family? Does anyone love him enough to talk with him about... the finite nature of life. The preciousness of hours, minutes seconds?

How from dust we all have come and to dust we shall all return?

He could be petting some kittens. Listening to the sound of a child's laugh-- Dude really wants to die in front of us holding a pen mid-way through signing a bill that forces orphans to work in coal mines or something.

aethervision,

@futurebird He’s still shaken from losing his shell. Poor old turtle with a ridiculous amount of power.

My Gawd McConnell, retire today and get some much needed medical help - members of Congress have the BEST medical coverage taxpayer money can buy!

Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell freezes again at a Kentucky event

The Republican leader was silent for more than 30 seconds after being asked if he will run for re-election.

He previously froze during a July press conference.

aethervision,

@Free_Press I’m confused. Are we complaining because he froze or because he started talking again? Given his track record, I’m leaning towards the latter.

CNN headline today:

"McCarthy starts to plot Biden impeachment strategy while GOP skeptics remain."

What the GROUNDS for impeachment might be is addressed in paragraph nine. CNN thus buries the lede of a more striking story: a vibes-based approach, where you establish first the feeling, "we wanna impeach," relegating the small matter of "impeachment for what?" to later stages.

That's news! Instead CNN frames for us another strategy story.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/28/politics/mccarthy-biden-impeachment-strategy/index.html

aethervision,

@jayrosen_nyu I think for clarity’s sake, CNN should split into 2 channels: CNN for new about cable networks because God knows THAT’S compelling and a second channel for their political reporting: EPPN - Entertainment and Political Programming Network because if they are going to cover everything like sports or a movie review, they might as well come out and say so on the box.

On Friday, Ramaswamy accused a Black Democrat of rhetoric akin to a Klansman and scoffed at the idea of White supremacists, because this is how he operates. Then Jacksonville happened. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/08/28/ramaswamy-race-2024election/

White supremacy, racially motivated hate crimes, and the murders of racial, religious and sexual minorities don’t happen in a vacuum. They are encouraged, given life, and ultimately driven by leaders who knowingly deploy the terror to advance and increase their own power.

aethervision,

@georgetakei It all comes down to a former majority terrified that they’ll be treated the same way they treated other minorities.

pls take this as nothing other than permission to filter words out of your feeds that could hurt the feelings of others if they knew about it. the feed should feed you

aethervision,

@seachanger If you filter out filters does that make the filters go away or does it create a paradox that would shatter the Fediverse like candy glass on the set of a Western?

What if when we said something was profitable, we meant it profited the people it was created for?

aethervision,

@RickiTarr We would need a different word for it.

aethervision,

@RickiTarr I’m not sure it works that way. As we currently consensually exist in a capitalist framework, our language has largely been subverted to reflect the eventuality that everything in the world has been reduced to a relative capital value. To me, capitalism is inherently exploitive, so the meaning of profit supports an exploitive relationship. My concern is that any word we apply will be subverted unless we fundamentally change the framework we describe the world. We need to change the framework first. I am not hopeful of this happening without a major societal disruption. Think of a bunch of kids negotiating to change the rules for Monopoly mid-game and expand that to several trillion players.

When I was training in a boxing gym, I noticed that so many fighters compared what they did to chess.

And I always thought such comparisons were silly. Yeah, both boxing and chess are about strategy. But the strategy is so different, this isn’t a case of an apples-to-oranges comparison, but of an apples-to-kangaroo comparison.

Then I started watching chess commentary videos. Bizarrely, I’m noticing the same thing. Chess players compare what they do to boxing.

aethervision,

This AP story demonstrates how eager some political reporters are to say Trump’s crimes don’t matter. It says the electorate is divided. It says “about half” approve of the indictments. It quotes three of the people polled: all Republicans.

In fact, only a dwindling minority are still able to defend Trump. If you skip the prose and look at the ACTUAL POLL RESULTS, you learn that only 15% of those polled said Trump did “nothing wrong” in Georgia and 21% at the Capital.

Looks like Jack Smith obtained Trump’s Twitter data, including “some volume” of his DMs. Elon’s people tried to delay production and wanted to tell Trump about the warrant, but they got smacked down and hit with sanctions. Shows whose side Musk was on, huh?
