AT&T is sending out letters warning they want to kill virtually all landlines (and perhaps related data circuits where fiber is unavailable) across essentially their entire coverage area throughout California. This would have devastating effects. Related CPUC meetings will be taking place through March.

Landlines provide crucial services for individuals, businesses, and other organizations in a wide variety of situations -- not just emergencies when cellular and Internet service tends to rapidly fail, but also for vast numbers of people in areas with poor, unreliable, or in many cases (even in large sections of major cities!) NO cell service, NO fiber, etc.

Landlines often provide the only available communication in a wide variety of security and safety situations, from elevators to interior spaces of all sorts where cell service simply doesn't work.

Many disabled and other persons have crucial equipment that depends on landlines. Often they are not tech-savvy and do not have friends or relatives to help them through forced technology changes.

AT&T has been shirking its public safety responsibilities for years, while still leveraging their effective monopoly on services in so many areas.

Their new effort must be stopped. I'll have much more to say about this as the situation progresses.

I see a lot of folks making the argument that yeah, a lot of layoffs are happening, but it's due to irresponsible hiring. And yeah, it's true that you shouldn't hire a bunch of engineers that aren't doing anything; which usually isn't the case.

I think people don't understand just how unbelievably BAD the tech grift is right now for people in leadership positions. It's not just that they hired a lot of people, it's that they also tasked them with working on the wrong things.

Big tech and media laid off over 350,000 workers in 2023, not because the companies were losing money on whole.

These layoffs were entirely to please Wall Street billionaires who demand exorbitant profits and massive employee firing.

These mass layoffs directly impact customer service, system support, and the quality of service.

But it makes the billionaires happy.

I’ve been re-reading all my history books about the Nazis. One thing that strikes me is how hard it was to fight back against Nazism from inside. The normative culture is so strong and everybody is just going along. Ordinary folks, with denouncing their neighbours to the Gestapo. The Gestapo was tiny only 32k. It was the ordinary people that were informing on their neighbours. Ordinary people enabled Nazism.

It’s horrifying how the US has embraced the Nazi culture. I suppose it’s partly due to the racist history and underpinnings of the country that were never removed after the civil war and WWII.

Reading “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich” is depressing as I watch the US follow the same path now.

Not only will this funding from the Biden administration provide jobs for underserved and Tribal communities, it will also be used to fight the negative impacts climate change by investing in reestablishing the native seed supply chain, and save water by switching to low-water crops.

This is progressive action. Joe Biden does a good deal for jobs and the climate and doesn’t get enough credit.

Honestly, I only go on the platform to criticize my useless GOP Congressman or get customer service from companies.
