    bluecanary3,

@TechDesk I've been thinking about replacing my M1 MBA with an iPad Air, but the only thing that keeps me from making the jump is the browser. I use Safari and Firefox. I like my extensions on Firefox and know that I will be foregoing them if I used an iPad.

Google.com tests a news-filled homepage, just like Bing and Yahoo

The mobile app has a "Google Discover" newsfeed, so the homepage should, too?

    bluecanary3,

@evan I have often worried that I have annoyed others that follow me with the items I have chosen to boost. But muting is a good way to let the other person know you care enough to follow them and it’s your secret if you chose to interact with them or not.

Now, she’s taking her call for a schism even further by encouraging states to outright “consider seceding from the union.” https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/marjorie-taylor-greene-states-consider-seceding-from-the-union-1234822567/

Periodic reminder to not use Google Chrome (they’re moderating bookmarks now) https://strangeobject.space/@silvermoon82/110969122337810598

Use Firefox or Safari, they have proper end-to-end encryption (browser maker can’t read the data) of bookmarks and other private and personal browsing information (like your passwords!).

I can’t stress enough just how ridiculous it is that most of you just hand Google your passwords to everything from your bank accounts to porn sites.

@neil It was the 90s and it was SUSE and it didn’t work. I kept at it and eventually got a Mandrake/Mandriva instance going, but I was most successful with Ubuntu for the hardware I was using.

Do you want to see more posts about interesting topics in your Home timeline? And do you want your own posts to be noticed by others?

Here's how to do both these things:

    1. Search for a hashtag you're interested in
    2. On the results page, click the + or Follow button in the top right corner
    3. Posts with that tag will start appearing in your Home timeline
    4. Follow lots more tags
    5. Include hashtags in your own posts, tag followers will then see your posts

    More info at https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-follow-hashtags-on-mastodon-and-the-fediverse/

    bluecanary3,

@feditips I started following several hashtags but the posts I was getting were in German and not English. Is this because of the server I chose or because the users of that hashtag just happen to be German speakers?
