As much as I don't like Twitter, I do miss all the calendar sales that it used to drive. I'm down over a $1,000 of income that would have come from Twitter calendar sales. That sucks.

If you want a calendar, you can get it here: https://www.lulu.com/shop/bryan-hansel/northern-landscapes-calendar-2024/paperback/product-2m29j64.html?page=1&pageSize=4

Last night's Full Super Blue Moon was fantastic (even with a light plume of smoke blowing in from Canada).

"Those who have never seen Superior get an inadequate, even inaccurate idea, by hearing it spoken of as a 'lake,' and to those who have sailed over its vast extent the word sounds positively ludicrous. Though its waters are fresh and crystal, Superior is a sea. It breeds storms, and rain and fogs, like the sea. It is cold in mid-summer as the Atlantic. It is wild, masterful, and dreaded as the Black Sea." - Rev. George Grant, Ocean to Ocean, 1872

For new Mastodon users, you likely aren't seeing art and photos fully. Most instances crop images by default, and if you don't want to have to click on images to see them fully, you need to turn off the setting.

Turning off the setting makes the Mastodon experience better.

Go to your settings. Find Post Layout. Uncheck the box next to "Crop images in non-expanded posts to 16x9." Enjoy art and photos fully.

I just saw this on Threads:

Everyone STOP what you are doing.

Go to O’Reilly Auto Parts website.

Type: 121G in the search bar and hit enter.

You’re welcome.

Here's a northern lights shot from last night. It's a vertical shot, so if you haven't changed your setting to see the entire picture, you will need to tap it, click it or smash it to see the entire image.

It was a really great display last night!

This morning's sunrise was worth getting up for. It was fantastic. I also found a place on Lake Superior near my house that I haven't spent much time photographing. I found a bunch of new compositions and features to photograph during the next month while the sun is aligned correctly.

One of the weirdest things in the US is that Supreme Court Justices only need 51 of 100 Senate votes to be put into a lifetime position — earned or not — but officers in the military need 100 of 100 votes to get a promotion that they earned and one nut job senator can prevent the promotion. That's a broken rule that should be changed.

The Milky Way over a lake in northern Minnesota.

It was hard to believe how calm everything was on the night I took this photo. The reflections were mind-blowing!

Sunset in Capitol Reef National Park in Utah.

So far this is my favorite photo from my visit. I still have a lot of edit, but this one seemed to standout compared to the rest of them.

One thing that Twitter was really good at was selling calendars. Mastodon and Threads for whatever reason just don't move the calendars in the same way.

Here's my 2024 calendar of landscape shots from northern Minnesota.

This 50-foot waterfall is called Devils Kettle. It's in northern Minnesota. The river splits into two and one side goes down a hole and disappears.

We hiked in on Sunday and the entire canyon below the falls if full of frozen foam. I've never seen anything like it. There must be 30 to 40 feet of frozen foam.

A photo showing two waterfalls framed by cedar trees. The waterfall on the left goes down a hole and disappears. The waterfall on the right plunges into a pool.

It feels like it's going to be an early fall on the north shore of Lake Superior. Many trees are already changing a brilliant red and yellow. In contrast, I made this photo on October 5th of last year. I have a feeling that this location may peak late September this year.
