Reading about , it's impressive to me how little Jack has learned.

As somebody who (briefly) worked at Twitter on anti-abuse, the place is a goldmine of lessons on fucked-up behavior. And the CEO comes out of the cryptocurrency space, which also has a rich history of garbage people run wild.

But instead of something that applies any of that, they have apparently produced the same sort of tired neoliberal marketplace-of-ideas horseshit product that Twitter was to start.

I was laid off from Lyft today, so I'm looking for work!
If you're hiring remote or in Montreal, hit me up.
12 years iOS experience, 9 years Swift.
I've worked on low level stuff (networking & databases), product stuff (built transit, bikes & scooters into Lyft), tooling stuff, open source stuff and lots of other stuff.

biohumanisti,

So true. Streaming is shit for the selection of older films. So many times I’ve wanted to watch some 80s film I’d never seen, for example the Dennis Quaid / Winona Ryder film Great Balls of Fire, and it wasn’t possible to stream it anywhere even as a paid rental. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/apr/27/rented-dvds-netflix-streaming-movie-fans-cinema-history

👋 !

We help (aspiring) Python developers up their game, both technically and career wise.

This involves plain Python, developer skills but also mindset, often underestimated.

Our approach embraces deliberate practice (stop tutorial paralysis!), and we are passionate about lifting people up through our work!

Heya, I'm looking for my next role! I am a Full Stack Node.js developer but I would love my next role to be backend focused (or game dev but I'm not so sure how to make that switch!).

I'm a quick learner and I love making tools for other developers to be more productive like SDKs and CLIs.

I am located in the US, remote jobs preferred.

Please reach out if you know of anything, thanks!

It's time to take into account the fact that them what own the worlds structures consider most of youse to be superfluous and burdensome at this point, unless of course you are directly contributing to their wealth and status amongst their peers.
Hold on tight it's going to be a bumpy ride.

I did some thinking about who we are as Djangonauts and where we're headed.

https://www.better-simple.com/django/2023/03/30/built-to-last/

I identify from my perspective our core values, our purpose and a challenging long term goal. If you're not familiar with the book "Built to Last" I try to explain them.

I'd love to know what others think and to better understand your perspectives.

nickcolley, (edited ) to accessibility

I'm looking for a Senior Frontend Developer / UX Engineer role somewhere people are put first.

I have over 7 years of experience working in the public and private sector.

Specialisms include accessibility and design system architecture (of note I helped ship the GOV.UK Design System).

I'm passionate about building interfaces that work for real people.

I'm at my best when I'm able to influence design and solve problems.

I am London based but looking for remote friendly or hybrid working, so anywhere works!

Please boost for reach :) :boost_ok:

I have a theory that, while LLMs (Large language models, like ChatGPT) don't really reflect how most people think, reason, and write

However, they do reflect how VCs tend to think, reason and write: they don't actually understand what they are saying or what they are doing, and their abilities are largely an illusion based on a mix of having a staggering number of resources at their disposal, and also on vacuuming up other people's work and claiming it as their own

Exactly 14 years ago , Satoshi Nakamoto designed the most pathetic / inefficient system ever invented by humankind : the blockchain.

Today, it weights 60 000 tons, wastes constantly 10 gigawatts (more than Belgium or Chile) to process less than 7 transactions per second :

Less than a 33 bps modem from 1990.

This could be a joke if it didn't have such gigantic environmental impact, wasn't enabling billion dollars ransomware industry and was not crushing thousands of lives in the process.

Found an incredibly useful app for finding people to follow on Mastodon. It crawls your social graph then finds the people who your followers follow the most that you don't follow.

Here is the thing you have to understand about VCs (and therefore, companies and websites that have accepted VC money), always and forever. Repeat it like a mantra.

--- Venture capitalists do not invest in the company. Venture capitalists invest in the exit. ---

Eventually any site, app whatever has a Sell Out Moment. They get bought by a big established corp, they go IPO, something. There is an "Exit". If you accept VC money, you are promising that Exit day is coming and it will be big.
