My company has just announced that there will be a round of layoffs soon. They just laid off a bunch of C-levels. They're giving us the opportunity to "opt in" to "workforce reduction" with a promise of three months severance.
It's been pretty tumultuous here, lately, to be honest, and I'm considering it.
But, I've got a wife and four kids to take care of, and I've never willingly left a job when I didn't have another one already lined up. And we've got good benefits (healthcare and dental) right now, so I really don't want to give that up.
Maybe if I had something lined up with similar pay and benefits, I could do it.
So, I'm looking for any recommendations. I'm a #PHP developer (of roughly twenty years), who has been doing a lot of #golang for the past year, and I've gotten very proficient at that as well.
I'm looking for a US-based company, and a Principal/Staff/Senior Developer role.
Anybody have any good leads? My website is at https://danielrayjones.com, and I can be emailed at dan@danielrayjones.com.
My wife @eugenialoli has been working on installing Linux on various old computers for which a lot of other options are now unsupported.
She's been finding that machines with 2GB or RAM or 16GB of storage tend to struggle, whether while installing the OS, booting, installing common apps or running those apps.
2GB of RAM is an incredibly large amount. As is 16GB of storage.
WTF are we software people doing as an industry that makes us consume so many resources?

Web browsers that are full development suites?
I started to learn some #FullStack development and I did not know about all the layout inspectors and debuggers that the web browser comes with!
The only good stack out there (opinionated). You don’t need 40MB of memory taken just to start the Node.js runtime and seas of NPM dependencies just to get basic functionality working. I’m excited to learn this when I finish my portfolio.
I'm a software engineer mainly interested in #AR, #VR, and #GameDev. I love the feeling of creating worlds for people to enjoy and solving the puzzles that #coding creates. I also have some experience in #fullstack#WebDev, though #CSS frustrates me and #backend stuff makes me a little nervous haha.
I just discovered #Anvil and it is great! The company behind this "low code" platform has manage to fulfill the secret dream of most back-end programmers: to "get rid" of all the shambolic code normally associated with front-end and being able to develop full-stack web applications only with the help of a drag and drop UI editor and #Python functions: https://anvil.works/
Their documentation is very good but I also found out a huge tutorial put together by an external developer which can teach you from building a simple interactive "Hello World" app to a classified ad site: https://pythonanvil.com/
