“Sunset on Lake Nakuru's flooded trees”

There are many lakes along the length of the African Rift Valley, which runs from the Red Sea in the north to Mozambique in the south. Kenya’s eastern Rift Valley has a string of eight lakes.

The Rift Valley is subject to ongoing plate tectonics and crustal movement that can affect the lakes. The recent rises, though, are directly associated with above-average rainfall. The lakes have been even higher in the past, and with rainfall in the Rift Valley Basin being on a rising rainfall trend, higher lake levels can be expected in the future.

Lakes Nakuru, Bogoria, and Baringo have risen to their highest levels in decades, inundating roads and building infrastructure, yet they also are not as high as they were in the early part of the last century.

We recently published a dev blog about how uv now saves HA 215 compute hours/month. We didn't stop there!

In last week's dev blog, we explain how we saved over 168 days of execution time per month. Check out how we sped up our CI to achieve this 👇🏼

I’m curious, northern hemisphere folk. If you were able to see Aurora Borealis last night:

  • Was this your first time?
  • How far ‘south’ are you (roughly - I’m not in the business of doxxing you)?
  • How old are you (again, be as vague as you feel)?

Please do reply and boost. I get the sense that there were a lot of first-timers and a feeling of shared awe last night and I’d love to know just how far that was felt :neofox_heart:

were quite special tonight. Amazingly I’ve seen them a few times in my home town outside Liverpool. This was spectacular. I even got a photo of them over my front door. Incredible evening. Almost felt like for a brief moment the world is unified by this rare event. The beach was filled with people. Everyday folk, not just camera nerds. That was special.

One of the things I've been hoping would happen for Hardcover finally did: TWO people have made videos about it!

Trying to crack the code and get influencers to talk about a product has been much more difficult than I expected 😅

Has anyone built something where they've had success with that? I'm curious what worked?

Thoughts on Thoughts About New iPad Pros

Let iPads be iPads. Trying to be all things to all people doesn't work in life, and I don't think it works in tech.

The iPad won't be a Mac and it's really time people figure this out. (They should have realized in 2018, 2020, and 2022 but who's counting)

There's some obvious stuff that iPadOS needs to be doing that it isn't. But it will never be a Mac. Just buy a Mac.

The iPad Pro is still the perfect computer for me.

I had been meaning to look at using #Ollama for local #AI & today I caught this excellent video how-to. Still not sold on the current hype of AI but it would be foolish to overlook its place in our future.

Honestly, this little project was the most fun I’ve had in a while: installing/using different AI models, using AI in the #terminal, then in a #browser, even creating a persona for the prompts. And it’s all running locally (no internet needed!), so it’s #private. 🤓
