New introduction for a new instance! Thank you very much for letting me join the #BeigeParty, I’m pleased to be here. I’m a #criminology researcher and in a couple of months I’ll be starting a #PhD in #psychology #MentalHealth looking at sexual risk taking and sexual relationships in people living with a diagnosis of “borderline personality disorder”. I’m very excited about this, I’m pretty old for a PhD student (49!) but I bring a lot of experience in working with people with complex mental health issues. I also have my own, I have lived with #bipolar and #anxiety since childhood.

I have been cat called so many times running, and once a young man slapped my bum from behind and tried to pull me into the bushes, but I think this is worse. Why the fuck is women feeling powerful through running something men feel compelled to try and take away?

I don’t live in a city, but I live in a “15 minute town”, I guess. In 15 minutes I can walk to grocery shops, cafes, pubs, restaurants, pharmacy, opticians, dentist, GP, library, state primary school, bus stop to get to bigger towns, churches of three denominations should you want such a thing, community centre with adult education classes and sports facilities and gym, and swimming pool. The train station is a little further, but only 20 mins’ walk because I live on the opposite side of town. And I absolutely love it. Obviously we have to travel to access big supermarkets (although personally I get home delivery), the local hospital and secondary schools, but that’s inevitable. Why would you not want everything close at hand so you don’t need to jump in a car all the time?

Seething at the English schools guidance on trans pupils insisting that “gender ideology” is “a contested view” and that children and young people transitioning is some kind of threat to “the school community”. Now teachers are under pressure to inform the parents any time a child confides that they are questioning their assigned gender identity. So now trans kids won’t open up to any adult and will be even more lonely and depressed. I loathe Kemi Badenoch!

Funny how as soon as you lose a bit of weight, people start commenting on your body. It’s as if the worst thing they can think of is a fat person, so all moves away from that must be applauded. I’m doing it for fitness reasons but people are interested in how I look, not how I feel. Did they find me that unappealing before?

I have to say I was really touched by how many Masto folk checked in with me after they heard about the earthquake, having seen my prior posts about being in Marrakesh. It’s amazing to feel like I have made enough of an impact on someone that I have never met in real life that they would worry about me.
