I am interested in two things:

  1. How the world works
  2. How we can make it better

My mission is to develop a deep understanding of how our world works — economically, politically, historically — and write to make it common knowledge.

I write wanting to address the problems in the world that keep us trapped in cycles of suffering.

I want to write a better world.

Sometimes, I think we need to stop blaming just Capitalism, and get more personal. Lots of countries use a Capitalistic system, but still manage to pay workers fair wages, provide free/inexpensive Healthcare, have paid maternity/paternity leave, longer paid vacation, shorter work weeks, ect. We use the word Capitalism like Christians use The Devil, but it's not some dark mysterious force, it is people who are choosing to treat other people like actual garbage, it is people who are making laws, people who are denying rights. The derision with which we speak the name of Elon Musk or Donald Trump, should be universal for rich fuckers who choose profits over people. They shouldn't get to hide behind, Oh, that's just late stage Capitalism. It's a choice for them, and it's a choice for the lobbyists who promote them, and it's a choice for the politicians who put those laws into action.

sashin,
@sashin@veganism.social avatar

@RickiTarr Capitalism is the underlying system that rewards people for that behaviour.

So I have been back to using ZSH for the last couple of weeks, this time without ohmyzsh.

For those of you who use zsh, I seem to remember zsh having much better tab complete. Like I could type 'downloads' and it would autocorrect to Downloads.

Mine doesn't do that. I know there's a line in zshrc that needs to be added, I did that. Anyone know why I don't get that feature? Or was that part of omyzsh and I'm just going to have to deal

sashin,
@sashin@veganism.social avatar

@thelinuxcast One sec, I'll have a look at mine. I have ohmyzsh installed though

sashin,

@thelinuxcast I don't see anything in my run commands which explains it, it must be something magical that ohmyzsh is doing

It's true. The file mangers for GTK are sub par across the board.

Thunar should be it. But it doesn't remember closing position well. It's supposed to, but it does not. At least past 5 tabs. Also, it has this odd behavior where you open a tab thinking one pane is in focus, but it opens it in the other pane. Very annoying.

Nautilus is still the slowest thing I've ever seen because it does not like that I have my open home folder and the regular location of XDG-DIRS are empty.

sashin,
@sashin@veganism.social avatar

@thelinuxcast Is speed the reason for thunar?

When a Confluence page breaks down to gibberish cos a macro you've depended on is deprecated and then you have to manually go through 1001 pages to remove it and hopefully replace it with an equivalent macro but it doesn't exist so in the end you just copy and paste stuff

sashin,

@liztai A markdown file is just a plain text file!

Just like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, markdown is in the eye or the software that interprets the file.

Space trash falling back to earth is not progress.

Stealing a woman’s voice is not progress.

Taking data and information from people without their consent is not progress.

Consuming vast amounts of water as we teeter on climate disaster is not progress.

Consolidating wealth to a few who are the ones dumping space trash, stealing women’s voices, taking data without consent and depleting precious water resources is not progress.

    Homo naledi is the most interesting new human like primate. They are from South Africa, little people. walked upright, but primates walking upright goes way back.

    They had hands just like modern humans but longish arms and powerful shoulders ... so they could probably zip up a tree.

    They have small brains half modern size. This has made people astonished that they may have had fire.

    I'm glad I'll never meet one, a smart little firebug with powerful arms sounds terrifying. 1/

This area that I'm standing on was dead zone for years because of hard clay blocking plant growths. It took me 3 yrs to get soil healthy enough to grow more diversity!
