Facebook/Meta starts talking about the "Extend" phase of Embrace, Extend, Extinguish as predicted:

"“You could imagine an extension to the protocol eventually — of saying like, ‘I want to support micropayments,’ or … like, ‘hey, feel free to show me ads, if that supports you.’ Kind of like a way for you to self-label or self-opt-in. That would be great,”

There'll be a "battle of the protocols" of sorts, yea.

What I find interesting are social aspects. You can have a superior protocol and growth-hack your apps to have millions of 'users' in the blink of an eye.

But you don't get interesting culture that way. You don't get engrained norms and values that people respect, and that serve as a backbone to uphold a healthy social environment.

Culture should be nurtured, it matures slowly, organically. Like a fruit it ripens.

Social bookmarking is a novel use case for and I’m super excited about it. I heckin’ love links and lists! I wanna use them for everything.

Things like are cool, but it’s not what I want. I just wanna link the thing. Books, films, podcasts, articles, songs.., they’re all just resource recommendations which can be encapsulated by links.

Thanks to @raffomania and @eb for the indirect prompts leading to this article mixing their ideas with my own.

    Nice article!

As you may know I started delightful project of curated lists. Though decentralized via sub-lists with independent maintainers, its still burdensome to keep lists up-to-date.

One way around that and similar to the ideas in the artice, is using something akin to network, but federated. There's a on it here: https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fediverse-ideas/issues/12

Witnessing another occurrrence of the anti-pattern this morning inspired me to write some thoughts about this social behavior that is so common on our that is based on mechanics.

On the forum I created a category for (or ) patterns, and the "Reply Guy" is the first entry in what might be turned into a pattern library collection.

In terms of renaming the patterns to be less emotionallly charged and more .

I will use this terminology for now:

: An exasperated reaction to a person who replies to someone else's post, offering advice or solutions that weren't asked for, or out of context.

: A person reacting to someone's post and giving an explanation from the assumption that the original poster and/or other followers lack that knowledge, or posted just to showcase their smarts.

Yesterday in #LibrePlanet chat I named the #Makepad project, a real adorable 😍 effort that's still lacking on the #a11y side, i.e. could do with some #AccessKit on board.

Today I found out that Makepad is apparently part of a #Rust appdev effort, called #Robius. Another project here is #Dioxus.. also in for @accesskit #accessiblity support.. maybe. 🤔

Robius looks like a very loose conglomeration of independent projects. Maybe AccessKit is even a fit to it?

    Overcoming #HyperCapitalism is essential.

Given all trend lines set by its voracious appetite, well beyond our planet's capacity, there is only one outcome should we not do so..

The steady taking away of freedoms by elites as they quarrel amongst themselves to expand their turf, unfairly advantaged by the system itself.

Then widespread conflict and war, empoverishment and famine.

If privileged like me, still living free, know that looking away now will only help reinforce this bleak future.

War is as ugly as it gets. No acts of utter depravity are shunned.

There are differences to justifications for committing these atrocities.

In case of Russia, a madman brutal dictator, expansionalist nationalism, co-opted religion, and a population both brainwashed by fully controlled media, and any opposition violently suppressed.

And the case of Israel? Wasn't it among modern democracies? Doesn't it have the freedom of media for people to inform themselves? Is Gaza then the people's choice?

In Free Software movement, time is the most precious commodity. There's tons of very valuable FOSS project to contribute to. An abundance of choice.

What the average crypto-averse person (including me) usually does is first 'skim' a new project that someone points out to them. If that project has 'red flag' terminology, then its often an immediate skip.

Holochain has been often advertised to me as "worthy to check out", but I always bounced on wording.

    > All in all quite different from blockchain, don't you think?

These days the 'smart' crypto scams avoid red flag wording in their beautifuly packaged websites and storytelling.

This is the problem with Holochain and similar efforts, such as Safe Network.

In their terminology they ooze Web3 crypto/blockchain vibes, while claiming to be very different.

Thing is their complexity means you can fill your PhD figuring out whether the claim is true or not.

Indeed. The vulgarity has become much more pervasive. I was astounded when I visited my nieces kindergarten school about 9 or 10 years ago to see the entire garderobe hallway hung with Frozen backpacks for the girls and Spiderman backbacks for boys. Very few exceptions, and those maybe of people who couldn't afford these brands.

Btw, typing "frozen" just now in gives zero indication it might have anything to do with water going below zero degrees Celsius. Sad!
