Not sure whether to place this under #DataPrivacy or #UXDesign, but it's a fun one.

For US users, at least, when exporting all of a LinkedIn account's data, if a user selects "Download Larger Archive" to get the full archive, when they click to request the archive, the UI just switches their selection to "Select the data files you're most interested in" instead, then selects ALL THE OPTIONS, and finally disables the form and submits the request. I guess the BE developers were busy that sprint.

‘We did it in cattle’: Republicans falter before IVF patients | | The Guardian

Anyone who has had will know that one of the significant aspects is a 'brain fog' that can effect memory, reasoning, functioning of the body & other mental facilities.

A new study has confirmed that these aspects are very real for those infected & have a significant effect on cognition.... however, they also confirm that while relatively slow, recovery is possible & widespread.

It also suggests that these effects have become weaker as Covid has mutated.

So qualified good news

wcbdata,
@wcbdata@vis.social avatar

@ChrisMayLA6 Careful with the conclusions there. 1) The authors only state that patients whose self-reported symptoms improved over time saw concurrent improvements in cognitive scores, but indicated that in general, declines could persist for years. 2) Although the authors indicated that there was less cognitive decline when Delta was predominant (compared to earlier strains), they a) suggest that this was due to high vaccination rates and 2) only cover strains through March 2022

wcbdata,
@wcbdata@vis.social avatar

@fifilamoura @ChrisMayLA6 Agreed. I'm worried that incomplete readings (or outright willful ignorance) of this sort of research are making it difficult to mount the public health efforts we really need. A current example outside the COVID scope would be the bizarre push against measles immunization, when the long-term effects of measles-induced immunosuppression are so clear.

wcbdata,
@wcbdata@vis.social avatar

@fifilamoura @ChrisMayLA6
Along similar lines, a paper I read recently indicated that sars-cov2 has many of the hallmarks of a bug able to produce something very delayed, like post-polio syndrome, but we probably won't know for another couple of decades what that looks like.

There is a bit of a pre-spring clean underway at house eclectech, and one of the things being sorted is a rather eclectic collection of inherited vinyl. Some I remember from my childhood and teen years, and some... some I do not.

But who wouldn't want to give this a listen?!

I'm deliberately not looking for it online. Going to listen to it as nature intended.

@eclectech Holy crap we had that album. Right next to Stormy Weekend, and a John Denver live album iirc.

@karengregory You can opt out, but from what I have read today, it appears that a transfer has already happened, so the setting will not affect work you've already published.

    It's hard to write a concise sentence when you have to identify the person in the sentence with a title like, "The Edmund R. and Fanny L. Robertson Endowed Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience, Psychology and Human Behavior; Dawes Leadership Chair of Social Science; and Hawthorne-Croft Medical Institute investigator."

    e.g.
    A new theory by Jim Smith, the The Edmund R. and Fanny L. Robertson Endowed Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience, Psychology and Human Behavior; Dawes Leadership Chair of Social Science; and Hawthorne-Croft Medical Institute investigator, is changing the way we view interpersonal conflict

    @Natanox @Gustodon @benroyce In the US, 50-75% of the electorate does NOT vote. This means, simply, that shirkers could easily change the system but choose not to.

    wcbdata,
    @wcbdata@vis.social avatar

    @AutisticMumTo3 @Natanox @Gustodon @benroyce There is no such thing. If there are multiple candidates, you vote for the one closest to your ideal. If lots of people do that several times, the widow starts to shift. That's how we ended up where we are - just with people who are invested in shit candidates shifting the window away from where I'd prefer it.

    New, by me: The U.S. Federal Trade Commission said it will ban the antivirus giant Avast from selling consumers’ web browsing data to advertisers.

    Avast will pay $16.5 million to settle the FTC's allegations that it sold the sensitive browsing data of millions of its customers collected from its browser extensions (ostensibly to provide privacy) to more than a hundred other companies.
