Renewable Energy

Truly amazing record run of renewable energy carrying 100% of California’s grid for portions of the day:

43 straight days — and 67 out of 73 days — where clean energy exceeded 100% of demand.

5th largest economy on the world, 39 million people and over a million EVs on the road here.

Right now renewables are producing 103% of demand and it’s 3:30pm here. It’s just amazing and should bring immense hope around the world!

It's time for some positive news amidst hopelessness that clouds us.

Scotland is generating energy from the power of the ocean. When the full project is finished it could provide electricity for over 175,000 homes.

Does anybody knows some Instances which running on ?
(and which do not use cloudflare as their CDN...)

frog_reborn,
@frog_reborn@mstdn.social avatar

@aligyie

Technically Nostr doesn't have instances. It has something called relays though, which I think is more intended as a way to get posts from one user to another than as the kind of social home that instances are where all your data rests. Not super clear about that though.

vegos_f06,

@frog_reborn @aligyie They call it P2P, but you can only follow folks from the relay you follow. This is a quite weird of P2P.

The [Biden] administration’s ability to mandate a transition to cleaner energy is limited after SCOTUS decided in 2022 that the EPA shouldn’t be allowed to determine how the US generates its electricity. Since then, the #EPA’s long-awaited rules for greenhouse gas emissions from power plants have leaned on getting energy companies to capture carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels."

Introducing the world's first steel produced without using fossil fuels. As a significant contributor to emissions, this breakthrough is critically important.

There are numerous solutions available to address the climate crisis. Let's implement them.

I'm sure I'm not the only person in the world who has solar panels on their roofs who has wasted quite some time in the mornings watching the magic of the power coming on.

This smugness is matched by looking back at a bell curve graph of production for the day where you've used up almost everything that the panels have produced and yet drawn almost nothing from the grid.

Hidden Lotus Herbs is getting ready to move to our new site and really ramp up our operations!

For some backstory,
I was the recipient of a fund from @coop to start a worker-owned and decided to make it an herbal apothecary!

We've been operational for around six months and are now starting our regenerative agroecological farm and increasing the capacity of our free clinic.

However, the systems we're building are more expensive than we budgeted for, and we could use some help getting the farm and clinic going financially.

We're really needing help from our community to make all this cool stuff happen!

If you can spare some $, please consider supporting our transition and future. If you can't, please share far and wide!

Thanks <3

About 20 years ago my cousin was trying to get those in Aotearoa NZ but building regulations wouldn’t allow it.

A couple of weeks ago I was biking along the Hauraki Rail Trail and saw a house with these tiles on the roof. They fit in quite nicely but were clearly not the same tin as the rest of the roof.

List of global issues that could’ve been solved if we didn’t give ~$40 trillion in subsidies to oil & gas industry from just 2015-2022:

(In $ billions, unless otherwise specified)

  • stabilize GHG levels: $30 trillion
  • end extreme poverty $2.1 trillion
  • health services for poorest 75% global pop.: $1.5 trillion
  • end world hunger & malnutrition by 2030: $240
  • safe drinking water: $150
  • end malaria, polio, rabies, elephantiasis & trachoma: $25.3
  • invest $6.14 trillion in

Další slunný jarní den a další rekord.

Renewables growth still lags climate targets, think tank says

"The world added less than half of the new capacity needed to meet its climate goals last year, with rising energy demand and weak infrastructure slowing the shift from fossil fuels.

"The reality is that energy demand has increased at the same time, especially in China, India and other developing economies," said Rana Adib, REN21's Executive Secretary."

But the trend is UP, and steeply:

"Global renewable capacity additions increased by 36% last year to reach around 473 gigawatts (GW), breaking the record for the 22nd consecutive year."

In 2020:
"Globally, 260 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity were added.
More than 80% of all new electricity capacity added [that] year was renewable."
