To get a glance of the #aurora yesterday, I walked up to the #forest. When I arrived at the entrance, I looked into the darkness, and realised that going into a pitch dark forest alone is probably not the smartest idea I've had, especially as I'm very much a city person.
I turned around, and ran into some people who also wanted to see the aurora, so I partied up with them, We walked through the forest for a few hours, climbed a big hill, saw no aurora, but had a good time.
The old fox that seemed to lead the way here is gone. The forest opens, like a portal, leading into a meadow. From the song of birds and the ever-companion, Wind's breath cool and damp, rustling in the leaves, you step into the hum of bees, the warm sun on your skin, grass tickling your ankles. Wind whispers softly in the grass, a dry breath from the south—an flash of orange, a white-tipped foxtail vanishing into the tall grass...
Morning Stumps - A couple of old logging remnants on the Brother's Creek Trail this morning. I was lucky enough that my catch-my-breath spot had this view, just as sunlight poured in from the side.
Having not done a real hike since November, it seemed the perfect time to launch myself on ~40 miles over 3 days backpacking.
Day 1 started in old growth redwoods, passed remains of homesteading, then climbed past a selection of trees to one of the old growth redwood backpacking camps.
Day 2 wasn't far, but had excursions to make it longer than the first. Out along Hanson Ridge and up to the fire lookout on Grasshopper Mountain and one that shall simply be known simply as The Excursion.
Day 3 was the longest of them all, but also the most single track trail, the most old growth. Oh, yeah, and the most downhill. A little river and creek and lots of trees.

The Caldeirão Verde waterfall during a really heavy downpour, which was probably one of the most tropically impressive views in Madeira, Portugal. 🇵🇹 This waterfall is 100 meters high, and the water flows into a huge basin. My entire photo equipment was totally soaked, miraculously nothing was damaged!
