This little spot on Olney Creek was magical in the afternoon light. I was sorely tempted to splash about in the water, but our days are still not warm enough and the water was icy cold 🥶
I love the way this tree's roots look as they stretch their way over the mossy rocks and down toward the creek. Gives me a real jungle-y feel, and I really dig that 😁💚
Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park (5/13/2023). Monument Valley is part of the Colorado Plateau a geomorphic province of buttes, mesas, volcanoes, deep canyons, & stunning rock colors. Reds & oranges predominate in the geology of the region due to oxidation of the iron rich rocks. There are also numerous fossils, petrified forests, & enumerable cultural sites within the ~336,700km^2 province.
Found a puzzling object while out on a walk. At first I thought it was a piece of driftwood but it’s very heavy rock. We get fossilised wood in this area but we also get slag from old smeltworks, so I’m used to finding both. I did wonder if it’s a knotty bit of fossilised wood but maybe it’s a weird bit of slag? The pattern on the lumpy bits is absolutely beautiful #fossil#rocks#geology#slag
#goodmorning it's Saturday! I'm feeling ways better from my cold. 🤞
Next days will hopefully be a week of day hikes. I'm curious 🥰 ... The photo is from the same region last year.
And we learned a lot from last year: it can be waaays more windy that we know from our area. (yes, this was a bit of an ugly surprise last year)
It's a rugged place, this high valley in the wilderness of Oregon. May the artwork take you to such a place -- one of wild beauty, intense silence, and timeless majesty.
This is the river Rhine in cologne. It's the biggest and longest river in Germany.
The drought shows us structures and things that are usually under the water.
Check out this post by Eleni Ravanis on the case hardening process that might have led to its formation. Associated with near-surface water-rock interactions, its study could have implications for past climate and surface water on Mars.
