For those wondering when the ‘What's New In #Android#Accessibility’ session is from #GoogleIO, it’s right after the dev keynote!
(As of this writing, dev keynote already in progress)
Nice to see Google finally get back into the Android tablet business. Been waiting for this since the Nexus 7 was discontinued. Sick of having to deal with OEM crapware and "value adds" on Android tablets...
I get that it’s hot right now, but man, the user experience of LLMs being this bot you type text to seems like a huge step backwards compared to just integrating these AI features natively into products.
I do enjoy split screen on my Pixel for events like this. I can have the video up top with Mastodon at the bottom. Better than picture-in-picture since it doesn’t cover up the app.
(The top corners not being rounded is driving me nuts though!)
It's a whole collection of simple, open source Android applications and they are truly wonderful. An absolute joy to use. They each replace one of your core Android applications, remove all the telemetry and bullshit and give you a very usable, lightweight alternative. I love each and every one of them. They also have a consistent look and feel by default.
GM just hired Apple's former VP of Engineering for Cloud Services, Mike Abbott
"Software, specifically monetizing it, is a major focus for automakers such as GM, as they eye recurring revenue opportunities such as subscriptions to boost profits."
GM is about to replicate Apple's shift to a services-based revenue model.
@jeff@davemark My understanding is that #GM is embracing a heavily customized version of #Android Automotive (AOSP) under a larger, unified vehicle software platform that they call "Ultifi".
Please boost for reach: If you're an Android developer, this page is really good for giving good overviews of accessibility tips for developers, including Accessibility Actions, which is far easier to perform with TalkBack lately, since users can swipe up or down, just like iPhone VoiceOver users can. https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/accessibility/principles
just created an #calckey account, but found that @megalodon is not yet able to login to it just yet (i think they're working on it). what's an existing way to using calckey and its features on #android and #iOS? #fediverse
@kainoa I have been looking for a reason to learn #Android#development more(I specialize in anything #Apple & serverside) - so this may be that project I've been looking for.
I'll be entirely honest though, $200 is not super enticing in of itself. It won't be the reason I decide to pursue creating an app or not. I'm sure it'll help get the word out though! 🪩
When you mention #FairPhone you should also mention @shiftphones. They too build ethically sourced electronics including #SmartPhones with excellent repairability, but they also distribute #FOSS#Android ROMs for some of their phones.
