Hmmm... I wonder what would happen if a large language model like started being trained more and more on its own output. 🤔

Because that's exactly what might start happening soon. It will be used to generate a shit-ton of bullshit online content (as @mhoye already noted), and it is trained on data coming from the Internet.

"If you liked Garbage In Garbage Out, you're going to love Garbage In Garbage Out And Then Back In Again."

Anyone interested in services like should check out the new service released to the public today. It appears to take a different conversational approach to the same chat concept as we've seen before. It's called PI and you can find it at the address below. It has a voice that responds back if you want to turn it on. Four different voices to choose from. As worried as I am, this stuff fascinates me. This thing is free for now.

Crypto and blockchain have been trying to find a useful way to change the world since 2009.

LLMs and AI (#ChatGPT, #Codex, #Whisper) are changing the world right now.

I was on the hype train for crypto back in 2016 and realized too late that it wasn't useful. I have seen firsthand how tools like ChatGPT are going to change the world for the better.

Still seeing a lot of dunking on the #ChatGPT-using lawyer. But there’s a lesson for the utility of generative AI in professional contexts: all the work the guy should have done (e.g., checking cites) is non-trivial and would have revealed the AI contributions to be of essentially no use. Sure: this guy is a trained lawyer and should have known better. But that narrative can’t coherently coexist with the notion that these tools alone will revolutionize legal practice or access to justice.

How much assistance in art does it take for it to cross the line into being no longer a work of human creativity?

And do we place the same value (tangible & intangible) on created from the human mind, and art simulated by a ? Do we care?

disaster:

I have been planning to integrate ChatGPT into a writing course I'm teaching. My idea was: once I have shown the students some features that make text coherent, we could ask the AI to revise some of their texts for coherence and some of these things would happen. Bc I expected it would know these patterns.

Fucks sake. I tried it on a paragraph last night …

I've been using over the last few months, mostly for tinkery type stuff, idle questions and so on. But my usage is increasing, and I'm starting to use it in place of a search engine. Given that, and the whole ... thing, I need to move to a locally-running . I didn't realise it is actually really easy, and some of the models are pretty good!

I'm using FreeChat for Mac, which runs out of the box (it also lets you choose a model from a local file): https://www.freechat.run

Scusate mastocompari,
