Hi all, I've just migrated from @irfan to this account on sakurajima.social. I'll also be attempting to migrate my main account @irfan to this one in the coming days, but I'm expecting nothing on that front since it's failed so far.
I've moved to multiple servers throughout my time on the #Fediverse in pursuit for a "permanent" instance to be on, and I've never had the chance to write an #intro post lol so this will be my first.
I'm a 26 year old (in Nov 2024) (gfdi) programmer obsessed with languages such as #Python and #Shell, frameworks like #Django, and #CloudNative shenanigans like #Docker, #Kubernetes, and #Helm. I'm also obsessed with #FOSS and #Linux, and promoting them to be more viable each day for the masses so everyone could have not just free but secure access to daily computing.
I'll be using this account to mostly document my passions through mini reviews or rants. I have another picture-based account over on #Pixelfed, @irfan. All images I have posted and will be posting will include descriptive/alt text, including my pfp and banner. I also have some bots for posting local (to me, #Malaysia) #news and other relevant data cos the #Mastodon API is just so fun to play with.
While it's nothing special to run it on TUXEDO hardware, this is particularly exciting as it is an early version coming out of our fully automated installation service. Things look promising to have it available for all customers pretty soon! 🤗
EndeavourOS has the option to install Vanilla Arch Linux without any modifications, using just the GUI installer.
It is Arch Linux and I don't believe in gatekeeping arguing just because you didn't use the terminal, it isn't arch. -- Which I have done, but I value my time.
I also much prefer the EndeavourOS Community. They are friendlier and more helpful.
I have done next to nothing all weekend, and whilst part of me is loving it, the other part of me is screaming at me to do something more productive.
So I'm going to backup my home folder in readiness for a nuke & pave of my laptop to go from #KDE to #Sway, still on #endeavouros (or should I try a new Distro? 🤔) ah, somebody stop me!!!
As a community, who often uses the latest technology and may see things before most people realize they want or need them.
Your voice can be valuable.
openSUSE for the past 2 years as lacked direction. They're currently holding an anonymous survey asking people how they use Linux. It's open to everyone.
It helps the Arch maintainers get a better view of the install base which in turn helps them know where to spend their time and effort. Get your votes in!
If nothing else, you get a really cool look at what other Arch users are using most.
Looks like all proton games on steam run at really low fps with the normal nvidia-(dkms) driver unless I run them with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1on a GTX 3090 TI.
Just installed #endeavouros on my thinkpad and I have to say that even if i have become a #nixos fanboy the last month, #archlinux is still nice :) #linux
If you are in search of a FREE SwayWM installation and migration tutorial (including dotfiles etc.) I have just revised and updated 'such a beast'. You may find it at:
Be advised the tutorial is rather long and detailed. With any luck, it is also accurate. I believe (hope?) this is my last large revision... although I hope to keep the dotfiles reasonably current.
I finally built myself a new PC and installed #EndeavourOS on it. One of the last things I did was get PixInsight installed to start working on #astrophotography projects as the skies begin to clear up here in Central Florida. In order to make sure everything works, I pulled up my pics of the Andromeda Galaxy from last year. Here's the finished pic.
Just installed #xwayland 24.1! Now to wait for the new version of the #Nvidia drivers. This is part of why I installed an Arch-based distro, I don't want to wait six months to two years between significant updates, I don't have that much extra time to spare in my life for reasons outside me and my body that shouldn't exist but do exist in this world and I don't want to waste it waiting around for new versions of stuff.
A question for #Linux#Wayland users. I am running Debian stable with Plasma and my computer was freezing randomly, and very often. Let's say once per day. I was about to start replacing hardware components to find the guilty party, but then I switched from Wayland to X11 and it has been a couple of weeks with not a single freeze. Is it possible that Wayland is this unstable or am I doing something wrong? My GPU is Radeon 6000 if this matters.
@darth All I can contribute is, that I'm on #EndeavourOS with #KDE, #plasma6 and #Wayland on my #RX6750XT and never got any freezes...
Nevertheless your problem could be any source, from hardware (faulty RAM, heat problem, ...) to software related.
