I'm hearing people who have been regular blood donors in are no longer going in because the centres don't require masking. And donors don't feel safe. I'd like to hear more about this. Anyone else experiencing this?
I'm sizing things up for a possible story.

It's interesting politicians appealing to drivers for votes.

Driving is part of the individualistic culture we live in, where individual, selfish needs are asserted above the collective needs.

I'm not anti-car, but too many drive when they don't need to.

The problem with public transport is that it's full of horrible people - but those people people are horrible also because of individualistic attitudes: not being considerate, polite, etc.

@adrianfry@mastodon.scot avatar

@lydiaconwell Given that the UK governments have not (yet) seen fit to allow many of us to keep our Covid vaccinations up-to-date, it is prudent for us to continue using cars for all journeys as public transport (or any crowded enclosed space) is best avoided.

Being on a bus/train/plane for hours where virtually nobody is masked seems utterly bonkers.

Anyone working in any medical context should be required to wear a whenever they are in the workplace.

"Until when?” you say?

Until they retire.

Just like spay painters, welders, stone kitchen fitters, medical folks need to wear their PPE whenever they are on the job.

For ever.

Brought to you by the sheer horror of watching nurses cheering at not having to wear masks around patients, as mask-mandates are lifted.

mandate update as Democrat support grows https://www.newsweek.com/democrats-support-mask-mandate-1830003
Per piece, those in support align as
75% of Democrats,
33% of Republicans, and
45% independents

Interestingly, I don't see half the population masking on their own, even if ~50% support mask mandates. 😎

Just had a good interaction.

Coworker: What's with the mask?
Me: Wastewater metrics.
C: Huh? Wastewater?
M: At this point, it's the best metric for data-driven decision-making. Virus counts in the wastewater aren't confounded by test participation rates.
C: Oh.
M: We're currently at levels like the first few peaks in 2020 and 2021.
C: Are you kidding me? I better get one of those.

Quick trip to Safeway. Ugh. Sat night. I pass a woman with an N95 mask. She says "It's just you and me". I said looks like it. And it was literally true. 😔

Down a different aisle we pass again & she says "I gotta ask you..."

This is usually where they ask about my .

"Do you ever see anyone else wearing an ??"

I happily reported that TJs & Costco had quite a few this week.

Was obvious she was the lone mask wearer in her circle. Hope I gave her hope.

Another photo I'd forgotten about; downloaded today, from my backup data.

I met this local - wearing a 😷 on Halloween day, last year. I randomly stopped him on the sidewalk & asked if I could please take a photo of him, in his suit with his dog. He was friendly, consented for a photo & we had a nice, brief friendly conversation & I commended him on his mask wearing & complimented his suit. He said he dresses up to make the kids happy 🎃👻

The CDC has officially recommended the RSV vaccine. If you are getting the feeling that we are in a more serious situation with than we have been led to believe...you are correct. The powers that be globally have pandered to the anti-maskers and anti-vaxers for over a year and can no longer ignore the reality.

Be responsible. Get and . Wear your everywhere. Be forthright in letting people know if you have been exposed and / or tested positive. Be an adult.

Know anyone who is still masking or working to avoid covid to some degree? Maybe they feel more isolated or limited socially, and having more social options that match their precautions would help.

There's a free "Covid Conscious" friends and dating match system beginning. Open to all walks of life.

It's launching in Oregon, while also offering to help anyone who wants to start their own local group anywhere else.

A community building niche for people who struggle to find others will do a lot of people some good, please spread the word.

I’ve been working on a reliable singer’s mask for performance. Lutema sells an ASTM 3 jet black surgical mask; greatly preferred as there is only a single layer of melt-blown to attenuate the sound. As with any surgical mask, the challenge is to seal the perimeter for respirator-like protection. My innovations follow.1/

🧵 Right now is a very busy time at my job. I'm mostly remote, but due to the upcoming events we have, I had to be in person for 4 days this week.

Two of those days were due to a multi local member event on Saturday this past week. I was leading recruitment for my local - so I had to be at a run thru meeting on Friday and the event on Saturday.

I showed up to the run-through meeting and quickly realized I was the only person who was wearing a .
