Who doesn't like mastodon or bluesky can try #nostr where you can even earn criptocoins (sats) through wat is called 'zaps'. But perhaps the process of setting it up is not easy for the not tech-savyy. You have to create a pair of private-public keys.
@bot@alex I hope I'm describing this correctly, but it's a cross between an API and a bridge. It lets you log into #nostr via #Fediverse frontends like #Soapbox or the #Mastodon app.
It definitely has some kinks though. Replies don't work, posts made via #Ditto don't show up everywhere, etc. But it's still very new.
From a technical standpoint, the protocol (ActivityPud) underlying Lemmy and Kbin has security and performance faults that make it inefficient. It's a great step towards decentralization but there is another alternative that I want to raise awareness of: Nostr....
This is our 3rd quarterly update on which platforms are growing, new entries such as #BlueSky, #Substack Notes, #Nostr & all public data on Meta's #project92
Includes latest on the #RedditMigration,
New polling, new posting data & more.
As a normal folk trying to understand the inner workings of the fedi, Mastodon, and all these available services that interact with the platform: has the possibility of some kind of single signon option been discussed?
If you can see this on the #Fediverse, like and boost; if you can see this on #Nostr, please do the same, trying to see how well #Ditto is working at the moment (posting this from #Soapbox btw)
It's not that bad! There's not as much #crypto stuff as I had been promised, still more of that on #Nostr and #Deso. Not as much #Twitter-style clout-chasing as you #Fediverse nerds sealioned about either. It's actually very Fedi-like but with Twitter's sense of humor. I like the choose-your-own algo feeds too. #mastodon or #calckey should steal that!
@paul I have a #nostr account, and I was originally stoked to see a #fediverse bridge, but I don't actually like the content I'm seeing from mostr.pub accounts so I decided to block the whole domain just now. Can't handle the long usernames either.
@paul I was just followed by a cryptic account on mostr.pub. When I tried to view its profile in a web browser, all I got was a .bin download. That should not happen.
I'm also an instance admin trying to decide whether to defederate that server. That's a decision we do not take lightly.
On my blog, #FOSSAcademic, I've done "FOSS finds" posts. But now that I'm starting to focus intently on #AlernativeSocialMedia, I am changing it to "ASM Update."
My video overview of Nostr: A simple, open protocol that enables global, decentralized, and censorship-resistant social media
Nostr is unique in that it has a global public key ID that replicates posts (notes) via relays, so it is scalable, resistant to censorship, and the user fully owns their identity profile. There are only two parts to the network, namely relays and clients, wit ...continues

If I understand it correctly there is no option to delete a post when it is on the #nostr blockchain. For a company ledger it is an important feature but for private people it is terrible. And I do not think this goes along with the EU data privacy framework. While I like crypto tech for professional and regulated cases I do not like when Jack Dorsey gets too enthusiastic. He and his tech bros take advantage of crypto tech for their own gain. He had his chance and fucked it up.
If I am ever feeling imposter syndrome and start doubting my ability to write a protocol, I can always take a look at #Nostr , whose protocol is just this, a vague example of some JSON message object, and then a zillion nonbinding "enhancement possibilities" with no pretense at consistency.
idk why people are excited about this (ok, i do, everything in cryptobro universe is like this), it's literally just a traditional client-server architecture with the phrase "censorship resilient" stapled on top of it.
Even Nostr has a Reddit type alternative called Nvote
Nvote is a decentralized, vote-driven community similar to services like Reddit and HackerNews. Nvote is powered by Nostr (yes Nostr is more than just posting short or long-form social media text posts).
Why should I want to use this instead of a centraliz ...continues
Lemmy and Kbin are great, but it's not a panacea. The protocol (ActivityPub) has faults. Also start looking into nostr
