This is now a conversation...so...enjoy?😉

John Brown & Unions are the keys to busting the MAGA fascist bubble. They're not magic, but these are the themes that we can sell to Americans about a better America that their ancestors lived and died for.

John Brown was a fundamentalist Calvinist, who lived and died for equality. He is a key example of progressive Christians who would be called Social Justice Warriors by the Right.

Unions (& the New Deal) were THE key for bringing Americans out of the Great Depression.

Coal miners getting killed for wanting enough pay that their children wouldn't starve is the image.

This is the sort of thing that I would like to coordinate and amplify with the upcoming Southern Antifascist Artist Activist's instance tva.community.

Please let me know if you are interested. I intend for it to be Southern focused, but would love for other people to replicate it for other regions.

Megacorp execs were interviewed about the strike & were quoted saying their goal was to "break the WGA," and to drag things out "until members start losing their apartments and homes"

After corporate counsel reminded the execs of labor laws, an update was released saying that actually the execs did not want to make workers homeless in retaliation for exercising labor rights because that would violate laws so its all a big misunderstanding

I detest Trump & his incessant lies beyond words. He's a loser who knows he can't accomplish ANYthing w/o cheating.

Via Ron Filipkowski:

New campaign finance reports reveal paid $20k to stage a rally of fake striking auto workers last September, with non-union people holding up ‘Union Members for Trump’ signs. The truth always comes out in the financial disclosures. https://www.meidastouch.com/news/trump-campaign-paid-20k-to-fake-a-union-rally

Give a million average people $600 and they will spend it all in the economy. If a million people give $600 to a billionaire, he has another $600 million to sit on.

This is why we have inflation. When we create wealth it eventually gets hoarded instead of recirculated, devaluing our currency.

If we tax excess wealth and support workers by legislating better wages, and bust monopolies instead of unions, that would fight inflation. Return the money to the people.

"UPS announced this week that they will be laying off 12,000 people, approximately 2.4 percent of their global workforce...

As you may recall, UPS drivers won a hard fought battle earlier this year for higher wages and less batshit working conditions so they don’t die of heat stroke.

Is the company truly suffering? Well, no. It still had an adjusted operating profit of $9.9 billion... they “returned $7.6 billion of cash to shareowners through dividends and share buybacks".

At the same time the company is laying off workers, the board of directors approved — for the 15th year in a row — an increase to the company’s quarterly dividend. This means that people are getting laid off, but shareholders are getting a raise."

The Writers Guild is on strike. Hollywood is closed for business. The union's bargaining documents reveal a cartel of studios that refused to negotiate on a single position. This could go on for a long-ass time:

My experience with unions has not been positive.

Unions reminded me of junior high school (middle school). Grown adults who didn't show up for work on time, spent a good amount of their time in the restroom, playing with their phone, or taking random cigarette breaks, along with 1 1/2 —2 hour lunches, and leaving their department and unfinished work to hang with someone in another department

Meanwhile, god forbid you take your job seriously or worse, actually like your job

Dear leftists, stop this shit.

It is completely incorrect on every single level, to the degree where it is hard to even know where to begin, and it engages in a side of victim blaming for fun and profit while it is at it.

Do.
Not.

Bosses Tried to Sack These Automotive Workers, So They Took Over Their Factory

Now they want to build bikes and solar panels.

On a Friday morning in July 2021, 422 employees at an automotive factory in Florence, Italy, enjoying a day off, when they received an email explaining they had been fired en masse.

With their official trade union, the Italian Federation of Metalworkers (FIOM-CGL), the workers declared the factory would be occupied 24/7 by the workers.

Here Justine Bateman’s thread lays out a case for why AI in entertainment must be addressed now, protections created or writers, actors and directors may not have a profession or career at all very soon. Writers Guild (WGA), SAG-AFTRA and the Directors Guild of America (DGA) are fighting for our professions to exist at all.

Screenshot of tweets by @JustineBateman • 2h Your digital image can be triple and quadruple booked, so that bodes well for a 10 percenter. 4/ 2. Films customized for a viewer, based on their viewing history, which has been collected for many years. Actors will have the option to have their image "bought out" to be used in anything at all. 5/ 3. Films "ordered up" by the viewer. For example, " want a film about a panda and a unicorn who save the world in a rocket ship. And put Bill Murray in it." 6/ 4. Viewers getting digitally scanned themselves, and paying extra to have themselves inserted in these custom films. 7/
Screenshot of tweets by @JustineBateman 5. Licensing deals made with studios so that viewers can order up older films like STAR WARS and put their face on Luke Skywalker's body and their ex-wife's face on Darth Vader's body, etc. 8/ 6. Training an Al program on an older hits TV series, and creating an additional season. FAMILY TIES, for example, has 167 episodes. An Al program could easily be trained on this, and create an eighth season. We only shot seven. 9/ Al has to be addressed now or never. I believe this is the last time any labor action will be effective in our business. If we don't make strong rules now, they simply won't notice if we strike in three years, because at that point they won't need us. 10/end Addendum: Actors, you must have iron-clad protection against the Al use of your image and voice in the SAG MBA or your profession is finished. Demand it from @sagaftra and do not accept any AMPTP proposal that does not have it.

I'm absolutely begging so-called leftists to stop spreading anti- propaganda without at least minimal fact checking.

Absolutely begging people.

If you want counterexamples of this they are literally everywhere.

We can start with my union:

https://www.alphabetworkersunion.org/our-people

or the union we're under, CWA:

https://cwa-union.org/about/leadership

I get that there are a long history of problems in unions, and also you don't make things better by spreading lies and half truths about them.

This means that over 30 people will lose their jobs, as a result of Starbucks' illegal anti-union efforts.
Ithaca was the first city that had 100% of its Starbucks stores unionized & now it will the first city to have all of its Starbucks stores shuttered.

The story hasn't broken locally yet (SB did a news dump last night); message me if you want to cover this

#TradeUnion stats are out this week, and there’s some new detail on membership density by age group, so I’ve been able to do some rough estimates of the time-varying age profile of the UK #union movement…

This isn’t quite the story we’re in the habit of telling ourselves!

We all know we have a problem bringing young workers into unions, right? Well… yes: density is indeed lowest among the youngest brackets of the workforce - that’s true (and for reasons not simply to do with age)…
