As policymakers reckon w/Russia’s advances in #Ukraine & Trump’s comments about not defending #NATO, the tools of 20th-century #warfare are coming back
Pandering to a lack of tenacity in society has become acceptable. Not universal as those with cancer & chronic illness show great determination. However, when it comes to supporting those suffering in #wars & public #health we read "does the #public still have the appetite for" &
"#pandemic fatigue" & there's acceptance of giving up or not bothering.
If those who went through #WWll had done this en masse many of us would never have been born. Has shared #survival instinct been lost?
Does anyone else find trump's sheep in the #US#congress and #senate utterly pathetic?
I mean, to sell your own country's security and standing in the world, at a time of #wars and terrorist attacks, for a decrepit psychopath in adoration of a wanted international #WarCriminal dictator who repeatedly threatens the US and got his war #propaganda in #russia to build up hatred for #democracy, #freedom and rule of #law?
"War deaths from malnutrition and a damaged health system and environment likely far outnumber deaths from combat."
"An estimated 3.6-3.8 million people have died indirectly in US war zones since 2001, bringing the total death toll to at least 4.5-4.7 million and counting."
and both just #finance proxy #wars all over the #world and tell #people to shut up bcs they can eat 10 burgers a month unlike (insert random 3rd world #country) where a McDonald's is a #luxury
French Mathematician And Philosopher Jean Le Rond d’Alembert died #OTD in 1783. With his theorem, now known as the "d'Alembert theorem", he perceived the presence of n roots in any algebraic equation of degree n. In 1744, he invented the partial differential calculus, which introduced arbitrary functions. In 1749, as a result of his mathematical research into differential equations and partial derivatives, he was asked to edit the Encyclopédie with Denis Diderot. via @wikipedia
@gutenberg_org And for everyone who doesn’t speak French, since this is highly relevant:
“The art of war, being the art of destroying men just as politics is the art of misleading them, remains one in which the art of guesswork finds the most applications.”
You know #wars are inevitable when the secretary general of the UN defends #Hamas terrorist acts of genocide in #Israel and the #RussianFederation remains a permanent member of the #UN Security Council after 20 months of daily #WarCrimes, violations of the #GenevaConvention, acts to commit #genocide in #Ukraine, and #ICJ international arrest warrant issued to serial child abductor #Putin.
Nevertheless, these documents have influenced real behavior in the real world. Soviet dissidents used to embarrass their govt by pointing to #HumanRights language in treaties the #Kremlin had signed & did not respect. Even when fighting brutal or colonial #wars, countries that had signed #treaties on the #LawsOfWar either tried to abide by them—avoiding #civilian casualties, for example—or at least felt remorseful when they failed to do so.
Both aggressors have deployed a sophisticated, militarized, modern form of #terrorism, & they do not feel apologetic or embarrassed about this at all. #Terrorists, by definition, are not fighting conventional #wars & do not obey the #LawsOfWar. Instead, they deliberately create #fear & #chaos among #civilian populations.
Our world is burning, yet our political leaders are still playing with matches. Climate crisis, social injustice, growing inequality, and ongoing wars - it's time for real change, not just empty promises. We must act before it's too late.
Scans #SocialMedia feeds.
Man, people are angry about all sorts of things. I get that it is important to be angry about #Tech feudalism, #wars#climatechange but sometimes I wonder what will all this yelling achieve?
Are they even yelling at the correct people who can do something about the situation or just with a bunch of similarly minded people? Then is the yelling just the filtered yelling that the platform wants to support?
Although I suppose it is like water, it seems not to have an effect at the start but eventually it splits the boulder.
But then this a true of most protests, a vocal minority shout about the "injustice" and then everything goes back to normal, unless a majority agree (and can do anything about it) or its a major PR issue. You probably will not even see it in the news unless it fits the plan for outrage.
Is #Mastodon really viable for the small to medium-sized operator?
We assert, "NO!"
We did something simple. With a Mastodon tab open we hit Ctrl+Shift+E to get the Network Tab. With an inactive thread open in Mastodon, we went to another website to read an article.
An hour passes and what we discovered shocked us. Mastodon somehow justified sending us 55MB of data. The #NetworkTab said 55MB over 1500 requests (53MB transferred).
See our recent toots about "Sir" (#)MontaguNorman, head of the (#)BankOfEngland who gave money to Nazi Germany. His quote is damning. Basically since 1914 when Central Banking started they have been able to lead us into #wars constantly, mostly just using inflation.
