Whenever you see the words “ads”, “cryptocurrency”, “blockchain”, “web 3”, or “AI”, just replace them with “farts” and you’ll know whether you want them or not.
“Can the fediverse survive without farts?”
Yes, perfectly well.
“Will farts replace people?”
I hope not.
“The European Commission embraces farts.”
That’s unfortunate.
“This new startup wants to improve your life with farts.”
Audre Lorde counsels us: "The Master's Tools Will Never Dismantle the Master's House," MLK said "the law cannot make a man love me, but it can restrain him from lynching me." Somewhere between replacing the system and using the system lies a pragmatic - if easily derailed - course.

Mozilla is a for-profit not-for-profit. And that’s all you need to know to explain everything that doesn’t seem to make sense about the chasm between what they say and what they do.
Hi there, if you don’t want me to hit you, please carry this sign that says “please don’t hit me” with you always. Otherwise, I can’t possibly be held responsible if I hit you. Because it’s in my nature to hit you. I can’t live without hitting people. It’s just who I am and what I do. Thank you for your understanding in this delicate matter.
okay so I think ...most of the people we do DNS for are here? so listen up!
we may need to ditch ns.murkworks.net if the people who currently own our old Class C don't respond to our WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! email and fix this. we'll also have to stop answering to anvilite. These won't be IP address changes, they'll be name changes only.
so @werpiper@rmd1023@wrog (who has been a big help with this today) and .. oh foo he's not here.
Anyway that might be happening and if it does this is why.
@TransitBiker So, where in the sequence of #SarsCov2 did you or anybody else find #HIV sequences? How is that compared to other #SARS or # MERS #Corona viri? Any proper literature on anything? I call your hypothesis #bullshit.
🤔 Instead of creating new terms/words for AI and LLMs that have run amuck, I think “AI bullshit” and “LLM bullshit” both roll off the tongue rather well. You may optionally shorten bullshit to “BS” or even the 💩 emoji if you prefer. I encourage you to call people out on their bullshit when they are abusing this autocompletion technology.
»New Windows AI feature records everything you’ve done on your PC - Recall uses AI features "to take images of your active screen every few seconds."« 🤦♂️
The Future of Life Institute (weird TESCREAL cultists) has directly moved from open letters asking for "development pauses" for "AI" to producing podcasts talking about magical, perfect solutions to challenges.
"What if everyone got a unicorn that pooped chocolate bars?" is a question you can talk about while stoned and have a lovely time but pretending that this is helpful (or realistic) in any way is painfully dumb.
Remember when your climate president approved the ConocoPhillips Willow drilling project in Alaska? Drilling has begun in places, but some activists managed to bring the decision back into court.
"The government’s attorney, Amy Collier, said experts at the agencies did consider that an increase in greenhouse gas emissions would cause the Arctic to lose sea ice, which the region’s polar bears depend on. But, she said, the link wasn’t direct. They didn’t have evidence that the specific emissions resulting from the Willow project would shrink sea ice in this part of the Arctic, hurting this particular population of polar bears."
HELLLLL NAAWWWWW this is some bullshit.... I caught my #ISP throttling the connection to the FRICKING #FREEBSD PKG SERVER!
For real, speeds were like 8.3kbps in a fiber connection. And then I confirmed the BS by adding a VPN on top and running pkg upgrade again. Boom, back to 1~2Mbps again. Caught 'em Red. fucking. handed.
Why even do this shit? For real. It's just fucking HTTP!
You see a notification that something you have boosted has been edited. You check and it’s now an incendiary troll message you don’t remember ever seeing.
All the comments underneath are clearly in reference to another topic, so these people haven’t seen the troll message either.
What is this? Has this been seen before and where do I report this?
I just learned of the biggest #bullshit feature I heard of: "view once" images in #WhatsApp. The idea is that if you send an image and select the "view once" option, the receiver may only "view it once". After that, it's deleted. And they claim it "prevents screenshots". How? I have no idea.
It doesn't matter because the whole concept is bullshit, of course.
