There used to be a water park in my hometown that had a bunch of slides and a wave pool. I used to go there all the time as a kid, and even went there as a senior on a trip. I went to birthday parties there, sometimes....
Summer. And childhood. There is time in each and freedom -- freedom from the schoolroom and its rules, and time to think and imagine and wonder. Even as adults, we experience summer, and can pick a flower, look closely at it, and dream.
She runs through her day in the simple joy of being a child -- pretending, playing, imagining -- all the things that children do so well, and should be allowed to do with freedom. Let your inner wild child run free this week and go ahead, think a thought that defies convention!
Honey Crisp anticipation
Red Delicious crunch of fall
Bobbing for memories
Autumn's tart pleasures
Granny's warm pies
Another Golden promise
A hungry child's Empire
Shiny Gala of delight
The Apple of her eye

I keep thinking about how the #media frames #Palestinian#children, stripping them rhetorically of their #childhood by convoluted phrases like 'people under 18' and 'minors as they call them'. I know this #language. It is used for black children all the time. Black children aren't children. They're 'young #men' and 'twelve-year-olds in #adult bodies'. #Colonial#dehumanisation.
