"...A BRIEF TOUR OF THE BROAD HORIZON: WORLD-WIDE HYPER-CRISIS
I intend this essay to be...a pointer to how it could fit together into not only a renewal of Judaism but a transformation of it — of us. That...could meet our own needs and the needs of a multi-level, worldwide crisis.
In some countries, the crisis of globalization has so tormented parts of the people who feel excluded from it that they have turned to hyper-nationalism.
...The long-powerful communities — white, Christian, and male — are also entitled to a place and shared power in an expanded democracy. They are not entitled to exclude the newly visible communities, as some politicians have trumpeted with a silver trumpet often made of cash and contempt, not a sacred shofar.
The result of all this: Two world-wide crises: the Democracy Crisis and the Climate/ Extinction Crisis..."
"The Conference of European #Rabbis explained that Jewish communities in Europe were raising their level of preparedness given the history of #Iranian proxies attacking #Jewish targets around the world.
"We are closely monitoring the Iranian attack on #Israel and its implications for the security of #Jews in the #diaspora," said conference president Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt. 'We are in contact with all the leaders of the Jewish communities and security officials across the continent. I call on all Jews across Europe to remain vigilant in community institutions and to act responsibly in the public sphere."
The diversity of network and UX types across the fediverse/social web that my little Friendica server sees is astounding. This is just Diaspora and ActivityPub federated content since Bluesky is integrated through a client API not AT. #fediverse#SocialWeb#ActivityPub#diaspora#Bluesky#friendica
#Introduction: Hello, I am #new here! I was on #Diaspora for quite a few years but it was a very small community. Mastodon seems larger and more dynamic.
I'm mainly here to chat about #RPG games. I have been playing #DnD since the #1980s, starting with Moldvay #Basic and Keep on the Borderlands. These days I am mostly playing #DCC, but also enjoy Call of #Cthulhu, Traveller and #OSR games.
Besides #RPGs, I like British comics, especially #2000AD and its spin-offs. And #cycling.
Une #instance ou un #pod#Friendica à me recommander pour ouvrir une page d'info #antifasciste ?
Ou un autre réseau tout aussi ouvert ?
(Friendica fédère avec #Diaspora*, c'est ce qui me botte)
"In the week that Ireland turns everything green and celebrates its diaspora, a new online archive has given voice to the human cost paid by generations of emigrants.
More than 7,000 letters from emigrants to North America spanning four centuries have been collected and digitised, giving poignant insight into the homesickness, tribulations, and occasional triumphs, of those who crossed the Atlantic."
"Irish low-cost carrier cites high costs borne by passengers, after resuming selected routes on Feb. 1; service was canceled when war broke out on Oct. 7."
The collection of #RaceBasedData by the #RCMP can’t come soon enough for some members of #Canada’s #diaspora communities, particularly for those who have been traumatized by law enforcement officials in their countries of origin.
With nearly half of newcomers to Canada originating from countries marked by social unrest or war, many – particularly those from authoritarian states – arrive with well-founded fears of the #police.
Tiwiza offers North African indie blues rock, inspired by Matoub Lounès (Algerian Kabylian singer, poet and thinker), Tinariwen or Orchestre National de Barbès.
This band, based in France (Toulouse), intends to merge the Berber culture, which spans nine countries and encompasses Tuareg blues as well as Gnawa music, with the music of the Clash or […]
Hi, I'm Sean. 👋 I'm a long-time grizzled veteran of the #Fediverse. Fedi '08, I think? I was here when Identi.ca was a twinkle in Evan's eye. I did Community Management for #Diaspora, and now I spend my time writing and podcasting about the space.
Queer as a 3-dollar bill. I love making games, creating music, and singing karaoke. A suicide attempt survivor, I have fought a lifelong battle with depression and anxiety. I am still leaning to love myself.
Despite appearing Very Serious, humor is my lifeblood. I am constantly saying weird, funny things, twisting sentences and relentlessly pursuing goofy ideas.
This cover of Pata Pata is from Zenzile, The Reimagination of Miriam Makeba, released, at the end of 2022, in which Somi reinterprets 17 songs of Mama Africa with a jazzy approach. At regular intervals, we hear excerpts from an interview with Mama Africa who explains in no uncertain terms what apartheid is. […]
It's been a while https://github.com/diaspora/diaspora/issues/8009 I wanted to improve the registration process of #diaspora to make it clearer. Giving more informations about how the data is used, that one account in the network is enough and linking to the tutorials.
I did all of this in https://github.com/diaspora/diaspora/pull/8285 and now that the review is done, this work is merged in the develop branch of diaspora*!
So, I will immediately deploy it on #diaspora-fr. Here is some screen shots.
Thanks to great work by @weepingclown we have finally updated diaspora-installer package in #debian unstable and it is ready for bookworm-backports once it migrates to testing.
There were many challenges to get it working with ruby 3.1 in debian bookworm and sid, but he solved these issues patiently one after the other. This was the bug he fixed https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1006547
#MusicFromTheMotherland#BlackMastodon#BlackTwitter#diaspora@blackmastodon I've recovered enough of my spirit to post some music today. The artist is Sona Jobarteh, the first female kora virtuoso. Her dad is Malian who moved to the Gambia. She's also cousin to my very favorite kora player, Toumani Diabate. This cut is her song about the Gambia. The video features scenes from all over the Gambia, children playing, adults working, singing and playing instruments. Enjoy. https://youtu.be/PtmmlOQnTXM?si=ULtfPWb_TcGCFz9v
♲ @birne@diaspora.psyco.fr:> #Diaspora* (and perhaps #podmin)) question: How long does it usually take for a Friendica post to appear on D*?I published a newhere post on venera.social yesterday evening at about 9 pm, that hasn’t appeared as yet (6:50 am) in my stream on D*. Wherefore I ask.
