Anyone have tips about a very low-spoon, easy set-up way to cross-post from Wordpress to Mastodon, keeping alt text in tact? Ideally free or one-time-purchase, not a subscription.
Specifically looking to make an account that will share my #illmarks body bookmarks. Open to instance recommendations for my art sharing bot as well.
Here's a #Mastodon question that comes up a lot for me. I want to follow a friend, colleague, or organization. I look them up and find they have four Mastodon accounts. None has made any posts, followed any users, or attracted any followers. Should I follow all four? None? The one most recently created? If I follow one or more, and a different one becomes active, will I ever learn about it through my timelines?
If you want your fediverse posts to be seen by more people interested in their subjects, or you want to find and talk to more people interested in the subjects you post about, hashtags are your friend. You can add them after the body of your posts, or #hashtag words in the post itself.
I can access Mastodon at work (on Universeodon.com) through Firefox and see all the posts (text), but ALL images including profile thumbnails are blocked. Doesn't matter what browser I use. Is there a URL that I need to unblock on the network? Or a setting I should be adjusting in my browser? #question#feditips#help#universeodon#firefox
If you want to do alt-text but hate people telling you when you forget for some reason, there is a bot that will let you know you forgot basically immediately so you can edit to add it before any actual person notices:
One super minor #MastodonTip#FediTips:
If you try and follow someone, and it’s an account that requires the person to approve your follow request?
Use the private “notes” that you can put on their profile to note that you requested to follow them on X date , if they don’t approve it, you won’t accidentally request again and potentially annoy them!
(Since there’s no notification when someone denies your follow request)
I say this as someone who’s completely spaces whether I’ve requested 😂
Just discovered “Tag Groups” on @IceCubesApp. You can create a custom stream based on a collection of tags (similar to feeds on BlueSky). Didn’t understand the point of it until I tried it and it’s actually pretty great. #feditips
I just read an article on #Feditips about how to join groups.
None exist for magicians, sadly, yet - but I found out its super-easy to set one up just by @-ing a group name to a groupname server like this: @magicians
If you want people to actually SEE the toots that you enjoy, you need to BOOST them!
Favorites do almost nothing. Favorites don't even federate. Sure, I bet the person appreciates that you enjoy their toot, but I bet others would like to enjoy them as well!
The only feature that Favorites count towards, is "Trending" on the explore page, but even that is Instance specific. Therefore the effective reach of that feature is limited.
Share the toots you enjoy by boosting them!
And if someone boosts things you don't like, go to their profile, hit "..." And then "Hide Boosts".
For the past few months I've been following pretty much everyone who interacts with one of my posts on #Mastodon
It's pretty great, my feed is super varied and interesting and I've found a lot of cool people and content online that I otherwise wouldn't have had I not clicked the Follow button
Mastodon and the #Fedi are starting to feel more like the cool, quirky #internet I remember from the 90s and the early 00s 🎉
Does anyone know of a tool that helps to generate Alt Text descriptions of images that don't have text? I feel my descriptions are either too sparse or novellas. Help.
When I go to my profile or someone else's, there's buttons for Posts, Posts and replies and Media. There's also a count of Posts. Posts include boosts.
Just want to see the account's creations. Not interested in what they have boosted.
Have searched #FediTips but have not found an answer.
