well, for a #female to enjoy the same pension as a male they would (on average) need to work an extra 19 years (beyond the current retirement date).
This is what happens when we (as a society) do not value the work women do around motherhood & caring.... but it also reflects how these roles remain highly gendered - men are not losing their pension contributions because they are out of the workforce caring.... cos, they aren't!
We already know that the house price to average wage multiple has roughly tripped in the last decades (from three times, when I was young, to around nine times now), but this hides the difference between men & women - which we would of course expect given the disparity in average earnings.
Nonetheless its worth pointing it out, as it again emphasises that we still have a long way to go on equalising women's economic oportuntues!.
The #UK government today published it's long awaited #transgender guidance for schools.
It stresses that teachers should inform parents if their child wishes to change their #gender identity at school, unless this would put the child at significant risk.
Teachers will not have a "general duty" to allow pupils to socially transition. Moreover, teaching staff and pupils do not have to observe a child's chosen name and pronouns if they "hold protected religious or other beliefs that conflict with the decision". Sigh.

Looks like the Labour Party in power will be testing the proportion that women do capitalism differently.... with a plan for the (state-owned) British Business Bank to back female led business.
Given gender differences in both top management & business ownership, this will likely push the dial more towards equality, but it will be interesting to see if there are other discernible effects.

Trans fems of the Fediverse, what does femininity mean to you?
Over the years, I've seen many folk talking about their relationship with femininity and how it relates to their transition and to their sense of identity, of who they are.
I've never understood it though. I don't feel like I have a relationship with femininity, or at least, nothing beyond pragmatic necessity. It doesn't relate to my sense of identity or who I am. In many ways, it feels like an obligation, rather than a source of empowerment or self understanding.
So, I’m curious how it works for other folk who find empowerment in it. What does it mean to you? How did it help you find yourself? How do you relate to femininity now vs earlier in your life?
