They all had something to do, and each valued the contributions of the others.
And because they were friends, they listened as much as they spoke, and even if they disagreed on issues, it didn't stop them from working together toward the common goal of moving that boat forward and enjoying the day.
The race – first established in 1984 – is for teams of hill runners and sailors over a long weekend around the west coast of Scotland.
The sailing course is 160 nautical miles and includes the tides and overfalls of the Corryvreckan and the Mull of Kintyre. Runners travel 60 miles and compete in 11,500 ft of climbing.
Good morning 🌄
Fantastic news to start this fab Friday with 😀
I got into a new para #dragonboating#PilotProgram. It's a 7-week program starting April 6, leading to the Super Sprints Festival May 26, on the Gorge waterway. Training with head coach of the Canadian Para Dragon Boat team.
2nd good news piece is I'm able to get back to #DisabledSailing lessons this year too. I was with DSA several years ago. I need to start anew again because it's been too long since I got my White Sails certification levels. DSA lost our homebase when Naden expanded navy infrastructure. We'd shared dock with Canadian Forces #sailing assn for years prior to covid. They kicked us out, during covid. I'll be taking lessons from Able Sail Victoria, running out of Oak Bay marina.
This large #ship has run aground - as well as calling PAN PAN on the radio to alert the Coastguard / Harbourmaster and other vessels, as a visual signal 3 balls are displayed on the front mast (this is to the left of the picture). If the vessel cannot be steered, 2 balls are displayed.
This is why in #Britain when something has gone badly wrong, we often say there has been a "total balls up" 😁
Under the clouded sky, the tall ship Alyssa sailed down the canal with a regal grace appearing to sail across the sand like a phantom ship. As she glided over the quiet waters, a delicate mist rose from the sandbanks, adding an ethereal touch. Not just a vessel; Alyssa is a symbol of adventure and the spirit of exploration.
There's absolutely zero stress or hurry, both for the sailors on their crafts and for the person watching them (that would be you) from the rocky beach.
In the background, historic Polignano a Mare, Italy, invites you to visit when you are done strolling along the rocks, looking out to sea, and just . . . being.
I went to the Cutty Sark in Greenwich today. That's in London for you non-UK types. It was a fast clipper that used to carry tea from China to London. Now in a museum dry-dock. Fascinating machine for harnessing the wind. I hope we can move back to some wind power for shipping - it'll never be quite like this, but a massive kite towing a container ship would be a sight to see.
When I was a kid, our calendars had holidays marked out in red: a red letter day was a special one, worthy of standing out from the rest of the week.
Some days spontaneously turn into red letter days, regardless of what the calendar says. These are days of joy and freedom, enjoyed with family and friends.
