A thing that makes it difficult in doing hardish SF in a RPG is that the players will simply ask the GM the results w/o doing the calcs. Which is entirely normal, as that is what people would do in real life is ask the ship's computer. The rub lies in that the computer was an NPC run by me, so I was loading myself up with the extra rules. Lesson: KISS. #KosmicRPG#CepheusEngine#TravellerRRG#ttrpgDesign
Based on my previous post (https://mstdn.dk/@leeleedee/111714845320025505), I thought I would start a thread of #TTRPGs and other #TabletopGaming books, adventures and resources that ARE available to buy as physical books in the EU (i.e printed and shipped from an EU source)
So if you are a game designer or author who has their books available on, for example, lulu.com, or you have previously purchased a great printed/physical #TTRPG resource and had it shipped to you in the EU, without added import taxes, then post a link to it as a reply here!
I'm seat-of-the-pants about #WorldBuilding in some ways, but there's some arbitrary math guiding the scope of #Hammondal. The most important is probably the 1/8th rule, which says I cannot explicitly describe more than 1 location in 8 ... for every building/etc I describe, I need to leave 7 for the GM and/or later development. This is both a maximum and my target, so I'm trying to get very near to that 7:1 ratio but without exceeding it, price-is-right style. [continued] #TTRPG#TTRPGDesign
Last week I released Micro2K – a distillation of the Step Dice #YearZeroEngine as used in #Twilight2000 and #BladeRunner. This is based on the YZE SRD with some additional inspirations.
I really like the SD YZE version but there’s only two games that use it. So this is free and if someone wants an editable file to make their own game with it, ping me.
This idea started from an unprompted declaration by @PaulStefko about loving the Objective rules from Unknown Armies.
What are YOUR favorite mechanics?
I recently ran across World Wide Wresting character creation where the characters answer questions about each other (similar to most PbtA games) however, you gain 'heat' between your character and the other character you can use later during scenes. Simple and genius!
aurgh, how many errors can a writer/designer put in a paragraph before it collapse into a black hole and kills us all?
If you are going to use science terms, then either learn something about them (they do mean something you know) or get someone to who do know to read it.
If not, better to use magic languages, or invented words, the advantage of that is also that it is time safe, new science will not make your bad science sound even more pathetic. #ttrpgDesign
Please respond by saying what sorts of TTRPG things you're pretty likely to either talk about or respond to if you see them.
This can be a list of games (D&D! Tribe 8! Fate!) or categories (the weirdest of indie stuff! NSR! Anything PBtA!), topics (Worldbuilding! Publishing!), stuff you're making, meta-commentary (The State Of The Industry), and so on.
Then maybe share, and if the replies are building up, check them for new people.
@LeviKornelsen admittedly I talk about other things too, but:
TTRPG stuff:
Mostly #OSR, #NSR, also #RuneQuest occasionally, I boost some stuff outside those realms if they look fun, and some stuff about #TTRPGDesign and my own game The Years of Adventure.
TTRPG adjacent: #Worldbuilding, #fantasy (books mostly!) and #AncientHistory, and I’ll boost tons of other TTRPG or adjacent creators (I.e. artists that post stuff that sparks the imagination even if not TTRPG specific)
We often tell new folks to #Mastodon to follow #Hashtags, but we never tell people how to do it or which ones to follow. To follow a hashtag from the web client (it varies on the apps), click on the hashtag, and then click on the person icon with a +. Once you have done that, the icon changes to a person with an x; clicking on the x icon will also unfollow the hashtag (see my before and after screenshots). You can see which hashtags you follow by accessing the menu next to your profile name.
What is your justice system like in your fantasy world? Do sheriffs patrol your lands? Do knights take care of the crime? Does an inquistion or religious group? If there is a famous (or infamous) group or person taking care of justice, tell us about them!
