In English and German, there will be updates on the cat and mouse game of faking and debunking news content + discussions with other journalists, media creators, and OSINT people + demos of useful tools. You can also have a 💬 + a ☕ with our colleague Anna Schild.
The assault by Palestinian militant group #Hamas on #Israel and Israel's counter attacks have led to a great extent of human suffering – and to a flood of #disinformation on social media.
DW's #factchecking team has produced a video that documents several viral fakes and explains how to debunk them.
I feel like I’m always poking journalists and other public figures to get verified on Mastodon… part of this is a lack of knowledge around the topic and the fact that joinmastodon.org kind of buries the details of “how” in the docs.
@sparkit@juc
This is a really nice touch recently added to Mastodon: when you search for profiles, it now shows you if they've completed link verification for a domain.
Finally managed to get my site verified to my account here! I've had the correct verification code embedded at the bottom of krebsonsecurity.com for months. But apparently, you also need to add something in the "extra fields" area of your Mastodon profile.
As suggested by @jerry, I added the words "website" and then the full URL in the box next to it and hit save. After that, the site was verified!
@briankrebs@jerry Nice. So now we know it is really you. 😄 And we learned that in the #Fediverse, on #Mastodon, verifying your identity is a matter of knowledge and using available technology.
The #DeadBird :twitter: (x_x) makes this feature dependent on your financial status as you have to pay to get verified. This implies that you can kinda "hack" verifying your account with money making #verification useless as a feature to provide #trustworthiness.
I guess this must be one of those fancy ideas of the new #CElo... :yayblob: (Sarcasm)
Mastodon allows you to verify yourself as the owner of your website. If your website is well-known, then this will in effect verify your identity as well.
Here's how to verify you are the owner of a website:
If this GIF has ever brought you joy in the past, I humbly ask you to consider making a donation to the National MS Society. It would mean a lot to me and to those I know affected by the disease!
📸 Where exactly is this? with coordinates, please.
📮 just to me with an answer. Explain how you did it
🤝 reply to all for collaboration
🌈have fun
(We are mildly dissatisfied with how things are going on Twitter, to say the least, but, like other parts of the OSINT community, haven’t found an adequate alternative home yet)
In the new #surveillance economy, data is indeed the new currency. Choosing services that respect your privacy is the first step to fighting back. #ProtonMail's #e2ee ensures your data only belongs to you, not #BigTech, governments, or hackers.
Trying to verify my domain on Bluesky, following their instructions for using a txt record. It keeps failing. I do this quite a bit an am comfortable with dns, and this is unusual. Below is what the record looks like on GoDaddy. (Weirdly, the txt record also doesn't seem to be propagating as fast as dns records usually do). Any ideas anyone? #bluesky#domain#verification#dns
In the concluding part of this webinar series, we are now ready to apply advanced verification to a complex DUT. From a verification point of view, one of the most error-prone characteristics of complex DUTs is the number of simultaneous activities on multiple interfaces.
