Morning Mastodonians!
We had an enjoyable evening of gaming last night. First up was a 3 player game of Resident Evil 2 The Boardgame, playing the intro scenario. For a game that is at its heart pretty simple, there sure are plenty of edge cases. Then we had an epically successful 4 player #videogame session of World War Z, where we finished off the Kamchatka episode on our first try, then went back to the dreaded gas station chapter of Jerusalem and beat it too. #computergames#boardgames
Do I know anyone who does/knows about #VideoGameMusic / #VideoGame Music / #VGM? I have a question about how something worked in a discontinued game called #Priconne.
It's a game that has visual novel story telling for cutscenes. During those scenes there's "dynamic music" in the background but I don't know enough about music or mobile game hardware to know what is normal or feasible.
I thought that dynamic music usually worked by having loop_A play in area A then when you moved to area_B it would cross fade by decreasing the volume of A and increasing B. Maybe there's another layer of music added on top to indicate a special effect is going on but that second layer ignores the first. It's just composed in such a way that it sorta works with either of them and has a timing thing so it starts at a time to make certain beats line up.
What confuses me about the cutscenes in Priconne is that it seems like they're able to do fancier stuff like changing tempo, picking which instruments are playing, or making it sound sadder (change to minor key?) in response to where you are in the dialogue tree.
Can you actually do that kind of thing on the fly or do they just have a few variants of the song that they switch between with normal cross fades? I only saw them do it in scenes with a handful of instruments if that helps narrow it down.
I guess what I'm really asking is does the script for the cutscene say something like "switch to track_6_sad.mp3 at next opportunity" or is it more like "for track_6.midi applyTransform(MOOD_SAD) and muteChannel(trombone)"?
I experienced the Mega Man series on Game Boy as a kid as really challenging.
Have already caught up Mega Man II and IV on NES yet and look forward to the other titles. 🤖
What are your experiences with the classic Mega Man series? :wily_ufo:
Did you experience playing a PS1 game not having a memory card, so you had to start from the beginning over and over again or let the console running over night? 🌃
....which were originally developed for the GameCube, were updated with many of the features that were first implemented in Corruption, such as a new control scheme based on the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. 🎮
Other changes include faster load times, updated textures, bloom lighting, and 16:9 widescreen support. 📺
The credits system from Corruption was incorporated into the first two games. 🏆
Her Interactive is about to release a banger, on 7th of May! 🤯 After temporary fall from the most unfortunate entry, they rise from their knees and fly very high. Welcome 34th game in the series:
It's a HUGE upgrade, when you compare these cinematics with other ND visual novels. Can't wait to get a feel of the gameplay that they, most likely, improved in accordance to general feedback as well.
There is so much to do in and explore new locations: in 3D, no less! Essentially, you can have a ride to Prague as the detective Nancy Drew in this game and play brain crackers, haha. :blobcattea:
...of Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong Country was released, which resulted in its computer-generated graphics becoming the norm for contemporary SNES games. 🤩
It was too late for the graphic designers to incorporate such a style into Yoshi's Island; instead, they pushed the hand-drawn style further as a way to "fight back". 🖍️
🕹️ Trivia about the game consoles of our childhood
also a #videoGame enthusiast, mostly #survivalCrafting but down for anything but sports and realistic shooters, mostly. Also dabble in #tabletop#TTRPG s and other board games but it's hard to find the right balance between "boringly easy" and "so complicated I get too frustrated and give up before the first role of the dice"
#neurodivergent especially #ADHD and "high functioning" autism (I love to carry on conversations and try my best not to do all the talking, but I have a hard time reading peoples' true emotions so I default to thinking everyone's mad at me all the time 😂 )
#queer#polyamorous#bisexual , pro- #sexWorker though not a sex worker myself (despite all my videos getting categorized as "sexually explicit nudity" 🙄 )
love watching movies and shows about #fantasy#sciFi and #horror -- #psychologicalHorror and/or so-called #elevatedHorror rather than guts and jump scares. I used to read a lot of fantasy and romance also, but social media broke my brain so I have a hard time staying focused on books now 😩
also love #comics especially #webcomics and #satire . Not really into superhero type comics, unless they're the newer ones like the "New 52". I prefer self-contained series with a little bit of weirdness to them like Saga, Rat Queens, and a bunch others I can't remember the names of right now. Often I'll go to the library and check out a fat stack of whatever comics they have, mostly standalones though since they rarely have multiple comic books in a series available in sequential order.
Oops I got too wordy again, better cut it off here 😅
Basically, holler at me if you're a progressive, a gamer, or a parent who is also one or both of the other two things!
I'm trying out a new #VideoGame which I saw on sale on Steam called Desynced. It's like a combination of Starcraft and Factorio. I'm just getting started but I'm really liking where it's headed.
Going forward I think I'm going to have to ditch my #Videogame podcasts that don't feature at least one host with a kid.
Listening to twenty-somethings that have almost unlimited time and basically no responsibilities is just too unrepresentative of my own experience with life that I really struggle to relate or even enjoy their output.
I've really been enjoying the @crossplayblog podcast called #SpawnPoint, but I refuse to believe that's it for Gaming Parents?
Started playing #StarWars#JediSurvivor , an Electronic Arts #videogame, on the #SteamDeck last night. My son finished it months ago but as I showed him how it looked on the Deck, I mentioned that I’d been playing games from EA for around 40 years.
He didn’t believe me so we looked up a list of EA games over time. Sure enough, 40 years on the dot. Archon, M.U,L.E., Dr. J v Larry Bird…1983 was a hot year for PC games!
Sorry for the 320 x 200 image… but that’s what the native resolution was! 🤣
