The 'shield-biting berserker’, one of the terrific Lewis Chessmen. The 78 chess pieces were found in a wooden box in a stone chamber on the Isle of Lewis, #Scotland. They were carved from #walrus ivory and #whale teeth. Dating 12th AD.
A walrus painted on watercolor. BTW, I've noticed that engagement on the fediverse is way down than it was 2-3 months ago. I do hope people return. Personally, I use almost nothing but the fediverse services now: PixelFed, Mastodon, Lemmy. The chronological feed, and finding new users to follow via hashtags, is the only thing that makes sense to me. These recommendation engines on the big social media is a total #enshittification of usability. You can never be found there, if the algorithm doesn't like you for any reason.
Walruses, dolphinfish, herons and cherubs holding crocodiles: This is the uniquely fabulous and bizarre Grand Central Fountain in Paisley. Dating from 1868, it was made for the industrialist Thomas Coats by the famous Sun Foundry based in Port Dundas in Glasgow. It was beautifully restored in the 2010s, and as far as I know there isn't another fountain like it anywhere else in the world.

For those who don't know, this is the Sun Foundry's 1868 Grand Fountain in Paisley. I'll post some proper pictures of it tomorrow.
I've recently participated to a tourist expedition around Svalbard with Secret Atlas Travel on the R/V Kinfish, to observe the local wildlife and gain a better understanding of how the Arctic regions are affected by climate changes.
#Walruses - a lurking threat. Do you know if a #Walrus isn't hiding behind your bins right this very instance? Fear the Walrus. Know the Walrus. This essential guide may be the only thing between you and a walrus.
This gorgeous building was designed in a Free Classical style by Robert Bryden and was built in 1899. It's home to Glasgow's only pair of walruses (in the relief by an unknown sculptor over the door!).
