A DDOS against the Internet Archive has commenced again, timed for maximum pain for the California staff to deal with. (I don't sleep, but I also can't do anything on the infrastructure here.)

So, we're down until people wake up to deal with the constant DOOS against us because... reasons

Wow. A microbiology lab at Texas A&M accepted purchased raw milk samples from NPR for H5N1 testing, then contacted the milk producers to seek permission. When the producers said, "don't test our milk," the lab not only declined to carry out the tests but also refused to send the samples on to another lab.

I like how A&M warm over farm “families’” survival when people are being killed. What cult of human sacrifice do they worship in?

This is something I am deeply worried about too; throughout but again this morning, with Israel’s horrendous bombing of a refugee camp just days after ICC put out a warrant against Netanyahu, and again, so far, NOTHING from Biden and co:

that the liberal world order so obviously means nothing, is a sham; that “Might is Right” - always but now so completely clearly so. As Nesrine Malik says, this will have wider repercussions.

"Kirk argued in the 1950s that if the American middle class — then under half of Americans — ever grew too large and well paid, then such access to “wealth” would produce a social disaster. His followers warned that under such circumstances minorities would forget their “place” in society, women would demand equality with men, and young people would no longer respect their elders.”

I don’t remember the name. Anyone?

Universal basic income is society as a whole saying to every individual member of society, "I have faith in you. Show me what you can do."

Anyone who has ever accomplished anything has first had someone in some way demonstrate their faith in them and their potential.

UBI is saying the people have the same right to financial security as only the lucky few have. Their wealth is used to destroy because they have far too much and nothing else to do with themselves except nurture their contempt.

An inflationary spiral based on expectations. It is a very different one from a deflationary one.

In the case of supply chain disruption (think floods and drought) it's a supply shock and at best businesses have to scramble to adapt (invest etc) to get around the problem. But hammering COL demand is perverse.

In all cases, messing around with interest rates is largely an exercise in futility.

We really need to rethink our capitalistic obsession of running things like a business. Cutting costs to increase profits obviously doesn't make sense in areas of education, healthcare, public utilities, and prisons, to name just a few.

Hell, Boeing is making a strong case that it doesn't even make sense for businesses to be run like a business, much less these public goods...

If the Italians appear sanguine about history, it's because they've been there, and done that.
