Keep at it, it's just costing these companies dollars. They need to learn.

Remember when we let one far-right dude make up the whole critical race theory panic, and then reactionaries passed "anti-CRT" laws that were really anti-diversity laws, so that teachers were afraid to even teach about civil rights and the Holocaust, and then US students' knowledge of the Holocaust dropped precipitously? And it dropped the most where those anti-CRT laws were passed?

Well, what if we let the same dude make up a whole plagiarism inquisition against the Harvard president?

Every metropolitan state is like that. California here, it's no different. I live in the central valley apart from the major cities on the coast, it's as red as Texas out here.

Edit, this isn't an invitation to discuss how elections should work, this is an observation about individuals you're likely to find in any given region of America. More rural = more conservative. That's the pattern everywhere. Of course trees aren't conservative.

Invented Narratives and the Outrage Industry

It took me several years to understand what I was seeing.

At first, I thought the problem was Twitter algorithms. I thought that was the explanation for why what I was calling rage-inducing simplifications spread like wildfire.

Great tip I learned a long time ago on the Internet.

If it makes you angry or triggers an emotional response, go corroborate it with three other sources.

Worst case, you find out it was outright false. Best case, you get further context of the problem that affected you. But no matter what you're getting different takes to different ends, and your brain will thank you for that.

What is the most ridiculous question or complaint that you've had from a Customer/Client?

Itty53,
@Itty53@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr

I used to work at a nice hotel right outside Yosemite National Park. Attracted a lot of ritzy types from all over the world.

We had guests ask, "what time do they turn the waterfalls off in the park?".

People never believe me when I tell them that but it's even worse. It wasn't that uncommon. It would happen two or three times a season.

Itty53,
@Itty53@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr

Most people will realize they asked a very dumb question and go "oh pfffftt right, I'm stupid, sorry" and have a good vacation laugh about it.

There was one though. She asks the question, demands really, and I answered "They don't turn off". And she looks horrified at the realization her question was stupid, if only for a second, then she turns all smug and says, "Well. I meant when in the season do they turn them off. I'll find someone who knows," and she turned and walked off.

Why do you think so many people are obsessed with murder?

Itty53,
@Itty53@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr

There's a lot of interesting thoughts here but I'm gonna throw a tangent out just to highlight how weird murder is to our brains: video games. They often engage in what's called ludonarrative dissonance - when the narrative is ludicrous but the viewer expects it. TV shows do it a lot too.

You'll have characters go on murderous rampages of countless nameless baddies but suddenly they have enough emotion for a cut scene where one of their loved ones is killed. And we expect it.

When you find someone telling you not to vote for Trump OR Biden, make absolutely sure they give their alternative. Don't let them leave it at "neither of those two", we know that's just a silent endorsement of Trump. Make them give you the alternative because if you look closely, they really try to avoid providing one.

That says some things about their actual intentions doesn't it?

"Who I voted for is too personal to share" is what old, ashamed, white Republicans say to those who aren't.

You can't have it both ways. If the US is not indispensable, then that means that Joe Biden can't just make a phone call to Bibi and end the war tomorrow. And if he tries to cut off military aid to Israel, then Congress can always overrule him. Donald Trump was impeached for trying to withhold aid to that Congress had appropriated.

Itty53,
@Itty53@mstdn.social avatar

@RealJournalism

It's interesting to me that most of the people calling Biden Genocide Joe aren't Americans, at least on fedi. They're progressives outside of America.

Also highly interesting that they never demanded Trump take action over the mounting problem that is Israel. Nope, that's Biden's job.

I'm not saying that every person saying "Genocide Joe" is part of a troll operation.

But I will assert EVERY propaganda troll operation is saying Genocide Joe. Count on it.

I work remotely with a team of around 40 people directly, and another hundred or so indirectly.

With remote work at a large company, there's a lot of fakery and fronting about things, people are careful about what they say. No one is going to tell you they're MAGA on a teams call monitored by an international conglomerate.

But you can pretty much tell who's who by how loudly they complain about Taylor Swift. It's really become its own little dogwhistle.

I grew up with Sierra online literally down the street from me, and the family always had a fairly decent computer at home. I would say if you're looking for the earliest heyday it was the 486, that's around when Sierra games started getting CD releases.

You could compare it to buying a brand new PlayStation though, optical drives were still expensive.

I am once again taking the opportunity to push my pick for the next Bond.

No one will be happy with anyone they pick, so throw out all the stops and pick the one that'll give you the best film for the new era. It's this guy, Iñaki Godoy, recently starring in the Netflix adaptation of One Piece.

It's out there, but I'm not joking. He'd kill that role. Give us a young Bond movie and give us a young, brash Bond with some seasoning that isn't Old Bay.

Biden: No, we will continue to fund it.

Arab Americans, young progressives, etc.: So why should we vote for you?

Biden: Because the other guy is worse.

What’s worse than genocide? Are their dead loved ones and family members going to be double dead under Trump?

Instead of blaming people for not voting for their own genocide maybe try blaming your candidate for sponsoring it.

Just gonna throw this out there:

If you have to write up some faux dialogue to make your point ... Your point is weak, if valid at all. That's just a general axiom of social media that happens to apply here well.

Israel has been commiting genocide since well before Biden. Biden couldn't stop it any more than Trump or Obama. Congress just overrides them for Israel every time.

You're playing the useful idiot in this comment, repeating the same propaganda for fascists.
