"And now, Republicans are saying that if they retake the White House they will change the Medicare rules so that people newly turning 65 will enroll by default into Medicare Advantage rather than real, traditional Medicare, further enhancing the profits of these massive, billion-dollar insurance giants while rapidly killing off real, traditional Medicare."
Reminder: who has been on an insurance industry mergers & acquisition spree for a decade? The fossil fuel industry & its financiers own most underwriters & insurance companies.
Yet another example of Republicans doing donor maintenance for their fossil fuel donors #KochNetwork .
Charles Koch and their cronies owning public education and public health instead of the taxpayers.
By 2026 Covid policy is going to be “Smell this Tabasco and if you can’t you can go home half an our early as long as you work through lunch”, and you pay for the Tabasco.
Women have always worked & always contributed to the economy.
What conservatives want is a return to the unpaid work and undervalued & unrecognized contributions to the economy made by women.
Motherhood is an unpaid gig economy job fraught with risk. One man away from welfare. The 3 D's, death, divorce, desertion mean poverty-striken single parenthood.
Reminder: the GOP want the pregnancy but not child expenses, health care, school lunches, housing, not even a child tax credit.
A fire erupted at a major Russian oil refinery in the southwestern Volgograd region overnight after a drone attack blamed on Ukraine. https://www.kyivpost.com/post/27558
Saw a friend today who got COVID in late November. She is having tachycardia when she lays down and she also constantly has a sensation that her lungs are being squeezed. She is now on albuterol treatments and oral steroids. Sje is falling asleep by 7:00 every night. This is a woman who has been a powerhouse of energy since the day I met her. She looked straight at me today and said, “I was healthy before COVID.”
Biden admin announced new actions to expand ownership electric vehicles, make it cheaper for people to install EV chargers at home & accelerate expansion of EV chargers on America's highways.
…invest $325 mil..to improve public #EV charging stations, enhance EV tech, help train workers to deploy and maintain the emerging charging network across the country…+ investing $46+ mil in a program called Ride & Drive Electric to strengthen EV charging industry https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2024/01/19/biden-administration-electric-vehicle-costs-EV-charging-network/7821705662579/
President #Biden on the special counsel's report: "There's even a reference that I don't remember when my son died. How in the hell dare he raise that."
"I don't need anyone to remind me when he passed away."
Humans are pathetically self-serving and short sighted.
This alert just popped up, via WaPo:
"Hurricanes are getting so intense that scientists are proposing a new tier: Category 6
For years, meteorologists have debated whether the five-step hurricane scale adequately captures the hazards of today’s storms. In new research, scientists say a growing number of storms merit a new tier, including five storms since 2013." #ClimateCrisis
The polling industry's probs get far more attention than sloppy reporting on and analysis of the polls.
The DMR says #Trump's support "dipped" by 3 in IA since their last poll, #Haley's taken 2nd , #DeSantis has "fallen" by 3, etc. But the poll has a MOE of +/- 3.7, so these aren't factual statements!
The incentive here is obvious. 'Everything looks pretty much the same as it did in out previous poll' doesn't make for an interesting horse race.
The names of the people funding an attack on democracy are not secrets.
They aren't Voldemort-types "He who cannot be named"
They are identifiable as greedy, self-absorbed, and bigoted liars.
They are known for frying a planet, ending access to education, and killing 1.19 million Americans in a pandemic and enriching themselves off those deaths.

According to NBC News Exit Poll results, 67% of New Hampshire Republican primary voters said they would oppose a federal law banning most or all #abortions nationwide. Just 27% said they would favor such a ban.
Somehow I didn't think the #SCOTUS case was going to bar Trump, didn't listen to any pundits but did listen to not one but two amicus briefs by dozens of my historian friends and walked away today wondering what these means for the 14th Amendment.
No pundits necessary. Only expert opinions welcome.
Do I think the Constitution is finished? No. Do I think we're in some deep shit?
Absolutely we are. If you don't think so I don't know what to tell you.
Leaving aside the obvious GOP fascism just for the moment, a key reason why Ukraine is losing support broadly across the American electorate is that there is no apparent practical endgame in the conflict for Ukraine. It's obvious what Putin wants. But what does Ukraine really want that is practical to achieve? It is not unreasonable that at some point this question has to be asked repeatedly, given the reportedly more than $75 billion dollars of support that has flowed from the U.S. to that country.
