🧵 I wrote ab the “is Signal secure?” manufactroversy on X. The Guardian wanted an explainer on why Elon & Jack were “concerned” about Signal. The answer, though, has nothing to do w/Signal’s product. It was part of an extended fight over whether woke NPR should be defunded & the CEO fired. Why? Because the CEO of NPR is on the board of Signal; by the Transitive Property of Bad People, Signal is thus compromised.

Pro-Israel counter-protesters at UCLA previously took part in anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-vaccine events across Southern California.

Some of the pro-Israel counter protesters are also associated with local Proud Boy and Three Percenter militia chapters and fundamentalist Christian churches.

Not having Roger Corman around is like losing an element of the periodic table. As important to culture as oxygen, carbon, and Bill Gaines. Time spent watching his movies is not subtracted from your lifespan but added to it 2x over. silver lining: it was awfully thoughtful of all these boston college administrations to draw the attention of a group of young, energetic, politically active students to last year's "tent ordinance" that cruelly targets the unhoused and is now being used to crack down on speech

“The Chinese government can buy all the data it wants from data brokers because the U.S. has no federal data privacy laws to speak of.

Maybe one day an article like this would be written about a company that collaborates with local artists and writers to produce these books, and a home grown machine translation company, rather than Chat GPT and Google Translate 🤔

I think of the children's stories I heard growing up in Ethiopia, & how specific they were to the context. And when my elders tell me stories about various villages in Eritrea, they are super super specific. Why not preserve that & pass it on?
