If you ever used a tool known as "Mastochist" or "Mastodon Super Tools" and connected it to your Mastodon account, you need to remove the affected token.
Preferences > Account > Authorized Apps
It would be a good time to revoke access to other apps there that haven't been used in awhile, too.
My mastodon authorized application list is a mile long. Sure wish there was a better way to manage it en masse. Like, "Revoke all but internal/required." or "Group by App Name" at least.
I know I'm kind of a masto-geek and try out every new app under the sun, but I'm betting I'm not the only one this affects.
The Podcast Index has an ActivityPub implementation, and now I can follow some of my more irreverent non-techie podcasts directly on the fediverse. So cool! Hopefully they'll add a Follow button soon...but in the meantime:
Find your podcast on the site
Grab the numeric value at the end of the url
Search for the podcast with this name {numericValue}@ap.podcastindex.org
Friendica already allows to follow any RSS feed and quote-share any post from it. Are there more functionalities available with this AP thingy? Is there a way to retrieve an older post?
It also seems that for a podcast published with castopod (for example @projetslibres ), this new AP representation (for example @6304634 ) is a separate account. Maybe there should be a way for a platform to tell the index that it already uses AP. I think this would be needed before adding a follow button, so that a user does not follow the wrong actor.
I've contributed a few bytes to the ActivityPub-Single-PHP-File codebase the past week. Adding microformats, some basic styling and even a few bug fixes!
The ActivityPub code is so much easier to understand here than trying to look through a giant multi tiered system like Mastodon.
If you're interested in understanding the basics of AP and fiddling with the code, this is a good option!
And if you want to try something a BIT more complex, Postmarks is a perfect option. It adds some abstraction and database layers to the mix, but still easy to understand.
#Threads is attempting to communicate the inclusion of quote posts in their AP messages.
Unfortunately, there’s not a true agreed upon standard for quote posts. Some #FediApp developers have made an agreement amongst themselves as to how that should work. Threads is not following those rules and has decided to use a _misskey_quote attribute in the AP messages. This isn’t coming across in the quote post format in most apps I use.
The instance fedi.software, where many fediverse apps have setup their brand accounts, is a Firefish instance run by the creator, who hasn’t been accessible in the past few weeks.
Two of their other instances are already either completely down or partially down. I’m hoping they just need a break and will be back soon.
Might be a good idea to pull some backups, just in case.
@box464 When the idea of a single instance where every Fediverse project hosted their microblogging identity was hosted, and was run by a single person was brought up, I brought up my concerns. I suggested if this was wanted, instead we run the instance as a coop, and each project have ownership over the server, so something like this couldn't happen. I guess nobody liked that idea.
Tumblr releases StreamBuilder as open source, their framework for building and displaying timelines of content. Might be useful to my #FediDev and #ActivityPubDev friends.
Calckey offers an interesting feature that I wish Mastodon apps included - the ability to view from what PLATFORM an account comes from. It's missing one thing, which is a clickable link that would take you to the official site of each platform to check it out. I think the beta API from FediDB might be able to assist with that.
Would love to see this in more apps, regardless of platform. Gives casual users a chance to check out other pockets of the fediverse out there.
@tost@TransGal4872@box464 hm, I def had an account on mkabs like a couple months ago. I do remember the software name in the ticker presented at the left, but I don't remember it showing on hover... guess it's just a coincidence 🤷
We need ActivityPub platforms that go beyond core social media concepts. @bonfire is exploring modular extensions and access control as building blocks for creative ideas.
Here's my guide to the install process on my little homelab system.
@box464 awesome guide 👏 One small possible tweak: the Co-op Cloud install method doesn't need an entire domain (our "DNS setup" docs you linked to probably could be clearer/more correct) – setting it up with vps.example.com and bonfire.example.com works fine; it even works using an IP address instead of a hostname for the server.
@coopcloud@picard That's generous of you. Consider it a bonus round if there's time left, but don't put pressure on yourself at the last minute. Looks like you have your practice run all setup with some great apps already. I'm going to try and be there!
Sharkey, a Misskey fork, is pushing forward with post imports. Unlike other platforms that have tried this, Sharkey will not federate the imported notes at all, just import them to the account. Assuming all comments, likes, boosts, etc are lost, but I’ll take it.
In addition, it seems to have Instagram and Twitter imports. I’m intrigued! Excited to see some progress on this front.
Today marks my one year fediversary. I've written up some thoughts about what I've learned this year.
But in summary, I've found passionate communities and kind individuals that spark my interests in ways I never imagined. If you're seeing this, truly, thank you!
